In Florida, United States
Difficulty: Terrain:
Upon further review, the cache has been upped to a 3 difficulty, the area has become very overgrown, (see anidanid's log) The second in our series of insane kayak placed caches!! (not that it will be any type of long term series!) IE, boat only accessible, without a motor, plenty of planning needed!!!! |
This cache is out on lonely, far away Camp Lulu key, JUST outside the west boundry of Everglades Nat Park.We kayaked 19.2 miles while placing this cache! The book Day PaddlingFlorida's 10,000 islands and Big Cypress Swamp by Jeff Ripple is an invaluble tool. Kayak or canoe requires at the minimum 6 hours depending on route, tides and winds. (it took us 8+) Choose your route and study the tides and winds before attempting this by paddling! It is under joint managment of Fakahatchee Strand and Rookery Bay park/preserves (permission granted by Dennis G). This key has a reputation of anything goes! And you can tell by the amount of CITO needed! Cache is a lock and lock container with a bunch of stuff in it, we prolly will go back out sometime to replace with an ammo box.

My introduction to Geocaching, with a well-seasoned geocaching friend, led to finding this "way-out-there" cache on November 13. I'm looking forward to more wacky geocaching adventures.

Paddled 4 hours to this site and tromped through the thick of it to check on the cache. Its high and dry and not needing to be maintained yet so I didn't. Litngbug couldn't find his own cache when we paddled out a few weeks ago but I found it with very little need for the GPS...for this reason, I am logging it as a FIND!!! Also, I encouraged the owner to increase the difficulty. Forgot to mention that I found this with a new geocacher that will have to set up an account in order to log this but SHE WAS THERE!!! Can't remember her geoname.

I believe that my wife and I are the first to find this one. It takes you on a beautiful tour of the Ten Thousand Islands.
