The month of September was a good one for me. I started to play better and with more consistency on the par three course. I started to understand how to correct myself when my swing broke down and became more accurate off the tee. My chipping and putting became my strength. This past summer between the time I started playing golf for the first time in my life and now. I shaved 18 - 20 strokes off of my par three game and went from averaging scores in the 90's to an average of 74 for 18 on the par three course. I was shooting about 16 over par on my best days. My lowest score was a 68 and I remember that round with great joy and saved the score card. I made three birdies, four pars, five bogies, and six double bogies. The fact that I did not get a single score above a double bogie was amazing to me. I even beat my brother Lou one day by three strokes 74 to 77. Although he did not ask the score that particular day because he played below his potential on the second nine (43). However, I did not. I didn't get to hit a practice bucket that day and started off badly. But I started to come on towards the end of the first nine. Still I shot a disappointing 43 on the first nine to his 36. But on the second nine I tore it up, paring three out of the first four holes. The final three holes I birdied one and pared the last two for a score of 31, tying my best score for nine holes on the par three course. I didn't say anything about it to him on the way home because he seemed a little edgy! I have not said anything to him about it since, either. But, that was the last time we played together this year. He is a much better player than I am and probably will be for a few years. But, give me another year or two and I think I can catch him more consistently. Even on the big course where he kicks my ass regularly and I have never come close to even competing with him!
