How it all started............

Eric Stafani's dream was to begin his own band.  He was influenced by his all time favorite band, "Madness"  first song he wrote was called "Stick it in the Hole"  which was about a pencil sharpener.  He dragged his poor little sister into singing his lyrics for him because she had a cute voice which sounded perfect for the skaisgoing for.  Gwen on the other hand was not too amused by her big brothers ambitions and rathered to laze on the couch and watch the Brady Bunch instead of helping Eric with his far streched dreams.

Meanwhile....Tony Kanal, who was born and          raised in Enup until he was moved to South California at age 11, joined his highschools jazz band as a bass player even though his previous instrument was a saxaphone.

Summer of '87

Former band member John Spence who was the lead vocal for his band "No Doubt"  Which coined this name from his favorite phrase.  Eric was the keyboardest and dragged his poor sister Gwen along with them to sing back up vocal.  During performances John would dance and do back flips all over the stage, this probably helped get the crowd all rowled up through the show.

After many performances No Doubt finally gets their first "officicial" gig at Fenders Ballroom in Long Beach California.

At an Orange County party, Gwen kisses Tony Kanal, and they decide to hide their relationship from the band.  It went on for a while before they finally confronted the rest of the band.  Gwen was afraid that her brother Eric, the bands keyboardest, would be upset with Tony for dating his little sister, and kick him out of the band.

Dec 21, of '87

Tragically John Spence the bands lead singer shot himself in the an Anihiem park two days before the bands huge gig at the Roxy in Hollywood.  Because of the devastation and shock over his sudden death the band decided to cancel the show, but then decided that John would want them to go on.

'87-88

Tony Kanal, a collage student, and a member of his sisters heavy-metal band, leaves the band because heavy metal sucked in Orange County, and decided to try out for No Doubt.

Huge No Doubt Fan and amatuer drummer Adrian Young ends up becoming part of the band by calling a number on the back of a demo tape and telling No Doubt that he had about seven years experiance with drumming, later he admits that he had only been drumming for a year, and he said that because he really wanted to be part of the band.

Once  the band was complete, they finally stepped into the world by signing a contract with Interscope records.

In the summer of '92 the band makes a video for, "Trapped in a Box" spending 5,000 on it.  MTV never played it for them, but MTV2 does now.  After making the video, they set off for another 2 week tour in the western states.

Fall of '92

Finally the band is becoming known all throughout the world.  and they set off for their first national tour taking them 2 and half months.  They were launched to a new beginning and hope for a dream come true.

March '93

With courage, the band goes back to the studio and starts recording the beginning of what was to be called Tragic Kingdom.  It was recorded in 11 different studio's mapped out in a 2 year period.  During this period Eric Stefani leaves the band to become an anumator for the FOX televisions network ,'The Simpsons'.  At this time he and Gwen were not getting along to well, and he decided it would be better if he left.  He agreed to come back and take pictures with the band for the CD booklet, but if you notice he is standing in the distance and looking
away in all the pictures.

Tony Kanal tragically ended his and Gwens 7 year relationship, which makes up the lyrics for Tragic kingdom.  Gwen takes out her aggresion in her music towards Tony, infact with all her CD's the lyrics are based on what is going on in her life.
