Orden: Leptodactyliformes
Su estado de conservación, según el Libro Rojo de los Vertebrados terrestres de Chile
(Glade, 1993); es el siguiente: Order: Leptodactyliformes Kind of small size, with I nuzzle I cut and obtuse. Not visible eardrum. Next oval-shaped Parotids to the eye. Irregular skin with prominent tibials glands, round. Brilliant greenish or brown coloration, with characteristic clear dorsal strias. Ventral aspect whitish with black reticulates stains. Up until now, alone exist incomplete data on the limits of variavility of this toad. The size can reach 45 millimeters or more, being smaller the males. The distribution of this Bufo is going from the mountain chain of Valdivia, Osorno, valdivians lakes ; west of the Patagonia (Nieden); Magellan. Secondary sexual characters little evident. Callousnesss coloreated in the first fingers of the hands of the males. Bufo variegatus stays yet between the batrachians less known of the Chilean fauna. Do you live in the wet jungle environments and cold, and it is not very frequent or abundant. They have been observed exemplarys in captivity originating from the Region of Osorno; jump very with difficulty and are displaced but well walking; swim very wrong and it has been impossible to register his voice; the male issues rarely acute sounds, as peeping of chick. they do not seem to present reflex of defense ever. Practically their/its/your/his reproduction, and development result unknown. The altitudinal distribution of this endemic bufo varies between 20 - 2.000 m.s.n.m.
