Here is some book reviews of books I have read. Not all of them are new, or even well known. Some of them may be your type or genre, some may not be. Keep in mind that this page will grow, as the weeks or even months go by, so stop by often, to see how busy I have been!

This is an exceptional book, coming from a brand new author. Wally Lamb has the uncanny ability to know how his character (a psychologically messed up overweight girl) thinks, and feels. That perhaps is the most amazing part of this dramatically intense novel. Just when you think that the main character has made it through some struggle, and you think it can't get any worse, it inevitably does! However, she rises above these unbearable situations, over and over again, smart-ass sarcastic humor notwithstanding!
Following this woman's story, from her girlhood into adulthood, from thin to fat to thin again, from insanity to sanity, and all of the inevitable to the downright ridiculous, will take you on an unforgettable, cathartic journey. You may never look at the struggles of an overweight person in quite the same light again! Nor will you come away from this book unchanged.

This book was on the New York Times Bestseller List, and for good reason.
Please be aware that you may lose sleep while reading this book, as you may not want to put it down! Also be aware that this book is a real tear jerker!

Before I begin these reviews, I need to say that Tom Robbins has influenced my mind and my behavior since I first laid my eyes on his books. You will see what I mean when you read the next 3 book reviews. These books are only for you if you love life, laughter, and romance in its quirkiest, most bizarre form!

Tom Robbins "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues"

Not everybody can hitch-hike the way Sissy Hankshaw can! Of course, not everybody has gigantuan thumbs to help them with the task. Tom Robbins has a way of romanticizing even the most mundane and scariest of activities. I even hitch-hiked a few times myself after reading this book... Oh, I hope you like Lesbian Cowgirls, Gay Countesses, and mysterious old Asian men that live in mountainous caves... Not to mention the infamous "Rubber Rose Ranch", a place dedicated to feminine hygiene.
If you saw the movie, then you missed quite a bit of action and story!
I give this book 3 gold coins, and 4 tissues on the Cry-O-Meter... (there is a sad ending, after all...)

Tom Robbins "Still Life With Woodpecker"

Ahhh, my dear Leigh-Cheri... If you are a redhead, then this book was written for you. If you know a redhead, or ever wondered where we redheads come from or how we operate, then this is the place to get a good theory or two! (To understand us better...) Also, you may gain some insight into the The Phases of the Moon, the Menstrual/Moon connection, what makes LOVE STAY, Camel Cigarettes, Masons, Pyramids, Princesses and Mad Bombers (included are some interesting recipes...)
All in all, this is a wild, wonderful tale. I smoked Camel Cigarettes for 3 months after I finished this book the first time. And, the last line will stick with you for some time. I give it 4 gold coins and 2 tissues on the Cry-O-Meter, in case you laugh so hard you cry!

Tom Robbins "Jitterbug Perfume"

This is an epic book, that takes place not too long ago, and also so far ago that we call those days "mythic times". If you like perfume, and love beets, then this is the book for you! Okay, you don't really have to love beets. However, if you get misty-eyed over the idea of IMMORTALITY, and love myteries about tiny blue bottles that contain the essence of the Universe, then you will delight in this romp through ancient India, Modern day Paris, Down'n'Dirty New Orleans ("Nawlins" to those in the know), and wet and rainy Seattle. Not to mention the race to get the best smelling Jasmine on the planet... (And yes, I have an interest in Perfume making... I am in school now for Aromatherapy, and man, this is a great smellin' book!)
I rate this book 4 golden coins, and 1 tissue on the Cry-O-Meter (Is there any use in weeping over the spilt essence of the Universe?)

Autobiography of a Yogi

by Paramahansa Yogananda

Now, this book is fantastic, wonderful, and full of Truth. Not just a truth, but THE TRUTH, Capitalized! I read this over a year ago, and still feel humbled by the sweet way this story is told. Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of Self-Realization Fellowship, is a Yogi Master who has a grand mastery of the English language. If you love miraculous stories, then this is the book for you. I do not speak lightly when I say that it was an great honor to read this book. There is plenty of history in this book, and heartwarming stories. If you do not want to be changed forever, then do not read this book! However, if you could use sweetness, love, and all of the light you can handle, this can change you forever!
I give this the highest possible ratings: 5 gold coins (would that I had 500); and 5 tissues, as this is a real tear jerker. The humbleness with which this story is told is enough to keep you home for weeks crying with joy and it gives you hope! I can honestly say that my life has changed 1000-fold after this read. We have several copies in both hardback and paperback in our house. We lend them out occasionally when our friends really need it. If you buy this book and keep your heart and mind open, this will be the best investment you ever made.

It has been said that Yogananda is present with anybody who reads his book. I believe this with all my heart.
