Click here to read about the history of the Cardinals, which will help you to understand the early baseball stadiums in St. Louis.

Sportsman's Park I

1876-1877

It is unclear who played here.

Vandeventer Lot

1885-1886

Home of the St. Louis Browns, who later became the Cardinals. played They apparently started in 1883, so it is unclear where they played for the first two years.

Robinson Field

1892-1920

The St. Louis Browns played here and then in 1899, they changed their color to Cardinal red and therefore became the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals of today claim to have started in 1892 after Robinson Field was built, but they were technically the Browns until 1899.

Sportsman's Park II

1902-1966

The St. Louis Browns (originally the original Milwaukee Brewers who moved to St. Louis) played here from 1902-1953 and the St. Louis Cardinals (originally the original St. Louis Browns) played here from 1920-1966. Sportsman's Park II was built on the same location as the original Sportsman's Park, except home plate was moved to the West/Southwest corner of the stadium. The St. Louis Football Cardinals played here from 1960-1965. Sportsman's Park was renamed Busch Stadium in 1953 when the Browns left for Baltimore and the Cardinals bought the stadium.

Busch Memorial Stadium

1966-??(possibly until 2004)

Home of the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Football Cardinals from 1966-1987, and the St. Louis Rams in 1995 while the TWA Dome was finishing construction. The original capacity was 60,000 and is now 49,676. In 1996, when the artifical turf was taken out and grass was planted for the second time, the stadium was converted for basaeball only. The address of Busch Stadium is 250 Stadium Plaza, St. Louis, MO, 63102 and the phone number is (314)241-3900.
