CHAPTER 4
The sand was cool on her feet as Skye walked leisurely along the beach. Behind her trailed her soft footprints in the wet sand being washed away as the waved trickled up the shoreline. It was a nice day, the sun hiding behind soft clouds keeping the heat away with a soft breeze floating over the beach. She didn’t notice though because she was deep in thought not taking any notice of her surroundings. She felt as if something was weighing her down and she frowned to herself.
Dramatically she lifted her face to the sky squeezing her eyes shut keeping them that way for several moments. As she slowly opened her eyes she looked about. The sun was now out peeking through the clouds, warming her body as she stood still on the sand, the cool water a contrast to what her warmed skin was feeling. She looked up at the sky and hugged herself. Suddenly everything felt light again and she smiled to herself.
Looking about she noticed a man sitting at the top of the beach to her right. Was it Blue Eyes? She sort of wished it was but chuckled when she realised she couldn’t do anything about it. She wouldn’t walk up to him. Trying not to look too obvious she kept her eye on him as much as she could. He sat on the dry sand watching the clouds swirl around above him. He lay down and watched and Skye could now watch without him seeing her. Even from this distance she could see it was him.
Without warning she felt chilled and rubbed her arms to ward off the cold. She shivered and looked around, freezing on the spot when she noticed 3 images floating behind her. The colour drained from her face and she felt faint. No, this couldn’t be, she thought to herself.
“Its okay Skye,” one of the images said floating towards her. She instantly recognised it as her grandmother and gasped, delighted yet frightened at seeing her. When she reached out to touch her, she felt warmth, not cold as she was expecting and it took her by surprise. “We won’t hurt you, we’re here to watch over you. We’ll always be watching you.” The voice said, wrapping around her without actually being spoken. It was as if she could read her mind.
Skye looked towards the other two images, knowing before she looked who they could be. He grandfather smiled at her, his wrinkled face so comforting to see again. He had always spoiled her when she was a little girl and even when she grew up. Happy memories were running through her mind as she looked at him. “Skye, my precious girl. You are still as beautiful as ever. But sad. Don’t be sad. Everything is beautiful where we are and we will see you again. But not for a long time.”
“I miss you so much Grandad.” Skye whispered to him but he heard her. He nodded, floating towards here to be by his wife. He took her other hand. She looked down at it remembering how they both used to walk with her, their hands wrapped protectively around hers. She looked at them both and smiled. “I’ll try,” she said simply and they both returned the smiles, moving back again.
She looked at the third image and felt instantly sad again, despite what she had just said to her grandfather. There in front of her floated the man she thought she would always love, the man who she saw herself living to an old age with like her own grandparents. “Don’t be sad Skye. It was meant to be.” She shook her head but he took no notice and continued to invade her thoughts. “There is someone else for you. Someone who will look after you as much as I would. Someone who will love you like I did. Someone who will stay with you till you are both old together.”
Tears were threatening to fall and she continued to shake her head. “No Trevor. No one will take your place. I am never going to forget you.”
A chuckle went through her mind. “Skye, you won’t forget me. But you have so much love to give and so much time for someone to love you as much in return. I’ll always love you too. But our time was short. Now it’s someone else’s turn. Let him in. Don’t push him away. Do it for all of us. We want to see you happy, not lonely. It’s been long enough.”
Long enough, Skye thought. Not long enough time together. Long enough since he left her. Long enough that she had been alone and grieving and now he was telling her to move on. Anger slowly built in her and she looked at Trevor’s image through squinted eyes. “You left me. You left me alone. How could you do that to me when you said you loved me so much?” Her shoulders slumped. “I was all alone and missed you so much. I needed you.”
A ghostly hand came out and touched her cheek. A warm glow went through her body, starting at her face and radiating through, tingling down her spine and spreading out to touch every fibre of her body. She looked up, serenity overtaking her anger with just a simple touch from the image of the man she loved. She knew in her heart that he never left her on purpose. “I loved you Skye, but it was my time. You still have lots of time, and you can’t keep living in the past.” The hand caressed her cheek and the warmth increased to a comfortable level, Skye’s body feeling relaxed again. “There’s someone here for you and you have a lot of time.” Trevor’s image nodded towards the man on the beach now directly behind her. She hadn’t realised she had walked so close to him.
“He’s……” Skye said drifting off. He was Blue Eyes.
“Yes Skye. He’s the one.” The voice was still floating around her, making her feel drowsy.
“But, I don’t know him,” she protested.
“You will. One day. Don’t run from him. When you meet him remember what I told you. Please, then I know you will be happy. Then I can go in peace.” He indicated the other two images with a sweep of his transparent arm. “We can all go in peace.”
Tears filled her eyes as she listened to him talk to her through her mind. Not a real word was spoken but she heard every word as if it was. Again she looked at the sky and her tears pooled in her eyes only to fall in large drops when she looked back down. The images were floating away and each one of them was telling her they loved her, the images of her grandparents blowing kisses and Trevor’s using his eyes to show her how much he loved her. She held her arms put as they began to float up into the air and away.
“Don’t go. Stay with me.” Skye pleaded with the three images.
They all shook their heads with regret. A flash of lightening shot through the sky and they were gone, thunder rumbling long and loud before dying down almost with a cat like purr. Skye stood still feeling terribly alone. The feeling overwhelmed her and she began to sob.
Without warning a hand touched her on the shoulder and she jumped. She turned to look at the person who had reached out to her and she saw her Blue Eyes. She jumped back, not sure of what to do and she stumbled and fell. She was falling down, down, down…….
Skye woke up clutching at the sheets to stop herself from falling any further. She blinked and shook her head, frowning. She felt more confused than ever before. She tried to remember why she was falling but kept coming up blank. She sat up and held her head in her hands trying to clear her thoughts but it was clearing everything from her mind. Sitting there on her bed for five minutes thinking wasn’t helping her any, so she got up to have a shower.
Stepping under the water she began thinking of many things, as she so often did in the shower. She always thought of Trevor in the shower and smiled mischievously at one particular memory. Then her dream returned. She remembered every detail.
Had she dreamt it all, or was there some divine intervention and Trevor had actually visited. It all felt so real. Trevor, and her grandparents had visited her. But she had been down at the beach and she hadn’t been there for a few days. If it had been a dream, what were her dreams telling her? Did they visit her dreams, or was it her imagination at work? Was it Trevor or her sub conscious telling her to move on with life? Either one made sense.
It was a good thing it was the weekend because Skye knew she would have been no good at work that day. Her mind would not have been on her kids, and that wasn’t a good thing. She doted on her class and never wanted anything to distract her from her duty.
After breakfast, being quiet so as not to wake Jay who she really didn’t want the third degree from, Skye walked out on to the beach to contemplate what it all meant. The beach was a calming place and she stayed within sight of the house. She wasn’t brave enough to be wandering off and finding Blue Eyes yet, or even any ghostly images.
Sitting on the dry sand watching out to sea as Blue Eyes had been in her dreams she thought a lot. Hours of sitting in the warm sun, every possible scenario being played out in her mind, Skye realised that whether it was her own subconscious or in fact Trevor and her grandparents, it was time she moved on and stopped living a life that was never going to happen. But she would proceed with caution.

Brian woke to a pounding on the door. “Gawd is the building on fire or something?” he grumbled to himself. He sat up uncomfortably in the bed and opened his eyes slowly. His whole body was wet with sweat and his heart was pounding. His sheets were damp from the sweat yet he felt unusually good and blushed when he realised he was turned on. What on earth was he dreaming about?
The pounding on the door came again. “Yeah okay, I’m coming.” He groaned at his choice of words. “Or I could have been,” he chuckled. He shook his head, amazed at finding himself at this aroused state on waking. It had been so long since he had been like this, the stresses in his life not allowing him to relax enough for any sort of pleasure let alone one like this one had obviously been. What, or more to the point, who, was he dreaming about? He didn’t need to be Einstein to know the answer to that. His Honey Eyes. It had to be her.
He threw on a robe and carefully tied it up. He could tell by the position of the sun it was mid morning. Did they have an appointment today? He didn’t think so. As he padded across the plush carpet of the luxurious hotel room the dream came rushing back to him. He had been making love to his Honey Eyes. He moaned aloud before opening the door, leaning his head against the cool door feeling his desire returning in a rush. She had looked so beautiful as they had made love on the sand of the beach. He silently cursed whoever was on the other side of the door. He wanted nothing more than to roll back in to bed and keep dreaming about his girl. He could guess who causing all the disturbance out in the hallway.
“Nick! What can I do for you,” Brian said, his voice agitated.
“What’s up with you? You’re always cranky lately Brian,” Nick said walking past him. “Aren’t you sleeping well?”
“Well, I was until you tried pounding my door down.”
“Sorry man, I thought you would be awake by now. It’s after ten.”
“Well, I wasn’t.” Brian growled and turned back into the room. He flicked on the TV with the remote beside the bed and sat down pretending to watch it when all his mind could think about was his dream. He threw himself back on the bed groaning at the thought and rolled over.
“What’s the matter Rok? I only wanted to know if you wanted to play this new Play Station game.”
Brian rolled over and looked at Nick through squinted eyes. Nick was busy setting up the console, totally oblivious to what Brian was feeling. That was good. He really didn’t feel up to explaining what he was feeling right now. “Okay Nick, give me one of those controllers. I am going to whip your butt. I’m going to show you no mercy since you woke me up!”
