Chapter 8

Two weeks later Brian sat in his car looking at Sue's house. Was she home? He hadn't rung her up to tell her he was coming. He wanted to surprise her. He was longing to get out of the car and see her, but he didn't know how he would react when he did. His body ached for her. He craved to taste her lips on his. He didn't know if he could control the desires racing through him.

He sighed and placed his face in his hands slowly sliding them down, as he groaned. He was tired after his flight, which he had got on straight after a scheduled interview they had had, and now it was late. They had 3 days off and he could think of nothing he wanted more than to come and see Sue. He wanted nothing more than to just be with her. But the longing in his body made him wary. He couldn't let his needs overpower him and scare Sue off. He had always been so reserved around her. But oh how he wanted to hold her and kiss her.

He looked up and saw the door to her house open. A man stepped out and Brian instantly took notice. His back was to him and he couldn't make out who it was. Sue came out then, walking straight into his arms and lifting her face for a kiss. Brian felt like he had been punched in the gut. How could this be happening to him again. He knew by the scene in front of him, this person, whoever he was, meant a lot to Sue.

The kiss lingered then the man turned to walk away. Brian still couldn't see him once he stepped into the dark but his eyes went to Sue. She stood there and waved to him, a dreamy look on her face. How could she do this to him? He felt like screaming out into the darkness. But he closed his eyes in pain and reached for the ignition of the car. He had to get away.

No, he wasn't going to run this time. He was going to find out how she could treat him like this. Why women do this to him all the time. All he wanted to do was find a woman to love, his perfect match. He had so much love to give and he truly thought Sue was the one he would give it to. No he had given it to. He thought she had given it back, but the sight that had greeted him proved otherwise. But this time he was going to find out why.

He got out of the car and walked purposely to Sue's front door. He hesitated before knocking, feeling suddenly vulnerable, wondering how she would react when she saw him. Would she laugh at him, would she back away? He took a deep breath and composed himself, lifting his hand to rap on the door firmly. Nerves overtook him as he waited for Sue to answer. He shifted his weight on his feet in a gesture of nervousness.

The door swung open and the bright light from inside blinded him for a moment. His eyes focussed on Sue standing in front of him and he mellowed, his love for her overtaking him. All he wanted to do was take her into his arms and kiss her. The vision he had seen just moments before returned fresh in his mind and he frowned.

"Brian, you're back?" Sue smiled lovingly at him. "Did you forget something?"

"Yes, I'm back," he said, his hands clenching at his sides. He stood there just looking at her.

"Did you forget something?" Sue repeated. Brian could see confusion in her eyes.

"No, but maybe you have," he accused.

"What?" The confusion was obvious. "How did you get changed so fast?"

Brian took a deep breath. "How could you do this to me? I thought I meant something to you." He walked passed her and into the house.

"Brian. You do mean something to me. What are you talking about?" she said walking in after him, grabbing his arm to turn him back round to face her.

"I mean something to you?" He shook his head slowly. "Then who was that that just left here?"

That stopped Sue in her tracks and she looked even more confused. "That was you. You just left here." She looked closely at him her brows knitting together. "We spent the afternoon together."

"I just got here. I saw someone leave here after you kissed him."

Sue paled. "Oh my God." She shook her head and looked suddenly ill, her skin paling. "No. It was you. You were here."

"I wasn't here," Brian said raising his voice and instantly regretting it. "Sue," he said quietly. "What's going on?"

"You were here, we spent the afternoon together." At the confused look on Brian's face Sue closed her eyes shaking her head. "You weren't here?"

He pulled her close. "Sue. I haven't been here since I went away on tour."

"No, you were here 2 weeks ago. You were here. I was with you," she said weakly. She turned and walked to the living room, falling to the lounge and burying her head in her hands. Brian walked over to her putting his hand on her shoulder and she flinched. She looked up. "Brian. You were here."

He sat down and pulled her close. "Sue. Look at me. I've been on tour. I have only come back to Orlando today."

"So," she took a breath. "So who was I with? I thought it was you. He said he was you."

Brian shook his head. "I don't know Sue."

They sat quietly in each others arms when suddenly Sue realised what Brian would have seen. "Oh my God Brian. You saw us together."

"Yes, I did."

"You must have been shocked."

"I was devastated. I was just going to leave, but for once I decided to put aside my hurt and find out why I am treated like this."

"Brian. I would never hurt you like that. I…" She stopped. "You mean too much to me."

He smiled then. The first smile that she had seen since he returned. Then she let out a sob. "Sue, what's wrong?" He grimaced at that question. He knew what was wrong.

"I kissed him Brian. I thought he was you. I kissed him, he kissed me." She was getting frantic at the though. "It all makes sense now. He was so forward with me that first day. He kissed me more intensely than you ever did but I knew it felt wrong. I thought you had missed me a lot more than I thought. Brian, he kissed me!" she cried out.

"Sh! It's okay. I'm here now." He pulled her close and gently stroked her back. "We'll get to the bottom of this."

She pulled away. "But how will I know. How do I know? What if he comes back?" She looked bewildered. "Brian, he looked so much like you."

"Sue. You do know it's me now?" He had to ask.

She looked deeply into his eyes and nodded. "Yes, I know it's you. I always felt uneasy around the other…. Brian…. But with you, it's like, I don't know. I know it's you."

His smile was welcoming. "Good. I came here to tell you something and seeing you with that other man was almost the end of my world for me." He stopped and stayed silent.

"What did you want to tell me?" she asked.

His eyes softened. His hand cupped the side of her face and his thumb stroked her cheek. "I came back because I wanted to be with you. I have missed you more than I ever imagined I could. It hurts to be away from you. Here," he put his other hand to his heart indicating where it hurt. "I wanted to come and tell you that I…." He stopped.

"What Brian?"

"That I love you Sue." He looked at her, the vulnerable look in his eyes showing how he felt.

"You love me?" He nodded. Sue smiled at him. "I'm glad you were the one to tell me that and not the other person. Brian," she looked up into his eyes, "its only been a short time since I first met you, but I think from the first instant I knew there was something special going on. Over the time, you became more and more important to me. And now, I think, I love you too Brian."

All thought of the other person left their minds for the moment. They would deal with that later. All that was going through both their minds at that time was how much they truly loved one another. Their lips found each other's easily, and this time Sue felt none of the awkwardness she had before. This time it was perfect, because it was Brian. She sighed into the kiss, feeling the love coming from him.

Brian looked deep into her eyes when he pulled away. His heart was pounding, his whole body buzzing with the love he could feel. The thought of Sue being with another man sent a chill through him. It would break his heart into a million pieces, and he knew it would never be mended. But the thought of another man maybe forcing himself on her sent more chills through him. Chills of dread.

"Sue, I don't like you staying here with that guy lurking around."

Sue shivered in his arms and he pulled her even closer. "I can't just leave Brian." He nodded reluctantly. "And part of me wants to make him pay for what he is doing." She sat up and looked at Brian. "And what his plan is. Brian this might be bigger than we realise."

"That's exactly why I feel uneasy about you hanging around here. Are you sure you can't get away with me."

"I can't Brian. Not now. Maybe in a little while, but not right now." She sighed. "I'm scared Brian. But I want to know why he's doing this." She buried her head into his chest and he instinctively tightened his hold on her. She had reason to be scared.

"We should bring the authorities in on this. Let them handle it. I'll ring Management in the morning."

"No Brian," Sue said with determination in her voice. She sat in his arms drawing strength from him. Her fingers were drawing lazy circles on his chest, distracting him from the problem at hand. "What he has done is wrong and I don't like it. I want to be the one who pays him back. He is playing me for a fool."

That brought him back to reality. Was she crazy? "But Sue, it's too dangerous. I can't be here for you and it will kill me to keep wondering what is going on here."

"Brian, he has done nothing that indicates he is dangerous. I want a chance to find out what he is up to." She looked at the concern now evident on Brian's face. "Don't worry, I won't do anything dangerous."

He was shaking his head. "I don't like this Sue. I think we better think about this a bit more before we decide on anything."

"How long are you here now Brian?" She was thinking about how this would affect them if she receives an unexpected visitor.

Brian was playing with the ends of her hair. "Three days this time. We have a break in the tour."

"What if he comes back in that time? Will you stay with me?" She knew she was being very forward, but she also needed the reassurance his presence would give her. She drew strength from him just being here.

"You want me to stay? Here? With you?" He asked looking nervous about the idea. She knew her request would surprise him, and that it had. But she needed him right now.

"Umm, yes. I have a guest room and," she stopped. "I'll feel better with you here. I have to admit to being a little worried about the other guy. What if he realises I know he isn't you?"

"Shhhh! We will think about that later." He paused and looked down at her. "And yes I will stay with you. I can't leave you alone now. I can get some clothes tomorrow, I should be okay in these for now." He indicated his casual gear. "Lets not think about him."

Sue looked up at him and studied his face. He looked incredibly sexy and she longed for him to kiss her. She wasn't usually one that engaged in a lot of kissing. Previous boyfriends she had, had not enticed her to yearn for many bouts of kisses with them. But with Brian it was different. A mere look, a smile, even watching him move or sit still had Sue longing for him to kiss her. She wanted to feel his lips on hers, even let his tongue sneak nervously to hers. Looking down at her now, Sue felt sure Brian wanted to kiss her. She wanted him to so badly.

Brian entwined his fingers through hers. She was looking up at him desire written all over her. Brian licked his lips subconsciously. He wanted to kiss her, but he held back. It wasn't in his nature to want to kiss someone as much as he wanted to kiss Sue. But oh how he wanted to kiss her. He cleared his throat. He was going to say something, but his stomach growled. They both laughed, relieving the sexual tension flowing between them. "I guess my stomach is reminding me I haven't eaten for a while."

"I guess with all that's happened since you arrived, I just forgot." She jumped up grabbing his hand to help him up. "Come on, let's get something to eat. I'm sure I can find something in the fridge."

Sue went to walk away but Brian pulled her back. "Wait."

"What Brian?"

"There's something I want to do first." He pulled her into his arms and reached up to tuck a stray lock of her hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering on her cheek.

"Oh?" Sue managed to squeak out.

"Yes, this," he said lowering his lips to hers. Hesitantly at first he let his lips glide over hers. This is what he had been dreaming about since he had been away. Every spare waking hour he had remembered the kisses they had shared and now he wanted to enjoy the reality of this one. And many more over the 3 days he was here. It felt as though his life depended on it.

His tongue slid across Sue's bottom lip a little more boldly and he heard Sue moan softly. She wanted this kiss as much as he did. He could feel it in the way she held him. Her fingers had crept up to tangle in the curls of hair at the base of his neck, sending shivers of desire racing through him. He tightened his arms around her and he pushed his tongue in to meet hers. It's all he wanted now. To kiss her and hold her tightly in his arms. The moment his tongue touched hers all reasonable thought left his mind. She moaned louder this time and he could feel his desire growing.

For what seemed an eternity they stood together kissing. Brian didn't want it to end and when he pulled away finally, Sue reached up with her lips and captured his again, starting their kiss all over again. When they again separated, Brian's breathing was heavy and he noticed Sue was similarly affected. She reached up and caressed his jaw and smiled. "Now this is the way I remember your beard. Not like the other one."

"Other one?" Brian asked in a daze.

"The other person," she said, bringing Brian back to earth with a thud. He had kissed his girl and he wanted to hurt him. He wasn't a violent person, but in this situation he felt anger rising and he wanted to be violent. Sue noticed his mood change. "Brian? What's wrong?" she asked then realised. "Oh I'm sorry Brian, I shouldn't have brought him up.

He shook his head. "It's okay Sue. It's something we have to work through. I don't like the idea of you having been with him. Jealousy is not a pleasant thing."

"You're jealous Brian?" He laughed. "I guess I am. You're my girl," he said to her then stopped. What if she didn't want that sort of commitment yet? "You are aren't you?"

She smiled at him softly and him and his heart leapt in his chest. "Yes Brian. I'm your girl."

He leaned in and kissed her again, forgetting about everything else. Until his stomach grumbled again. They both laughed. Brian didn't really want food right at the moment, but Sue turned in his arms and pulled him towards the kitchen. "Come on Brian, lets find you something to eat.
