Brian woke the next morning yawning and rubbing his tired eyes. He hadn't slept well with dreams of someone who looked like him, running away with his girl. No matter how he tried to keep up with them, they got further and further away. He had tossed and turned during those dreams, unable to fall into a deep sleep. But the main reason he hadn't slept well was due to the fact that Sue was only one room away from him. They had sat down to eat a pizza Sue had found in her freezer with a salad she had made up. Together they ate and talked well into the night about an array of topics, before Sue finally showed Brian to the guest room. She found a new toothbrush for him making him laugh at the pink colour she handed over. She shrugged telling him it was that or nothing. The simple fact that she gave it to him made him take it. She had lingered in the room, seeming to be reluctant to leave him. He took her into his arms and they shared another sizzling kiss before she slowly left the room leaving him in a state of pure longing. He'd sat down on the edge of the bed wondering what was happening to him. Never before had he been so affected by a woman. He wanted her in his arms badly. Now as he lay in the bed listening for some indication that Sue was awake he thought about it again. He wanted Sue. And he realised it was more than just holding her and kissing her. His body hummed at the thought of it, but he would have to take control of the urges he was feeling. He decided to get up and take a shower, maybe even a cold one. He took the towel Sue had given him and left the room, checking the coast was clear before he went. He showered quickly then dried off wrapping the towel around his waist as he brushed his teeth. He was mid way through brushing when the door was flung open. He looked up in surprise to see Sue. "Oooops, Brian, I'm sorry. I should have knocked." She lowered her eyes, but they quickly raised again, lingering on his chest, then raising to his eyes. Brian spat out the toothpaste and rinsed his mouth before looking back at Sue. That longing feeling was back again as he looked at her standing there in her short nightie and silk robe. She was still looking at him, her eyes deepening in colour. That look was nearly his undoing, but he couldn't act on the wishes he had at that moment. That would definitely not be proper. But he was damned if he didn't think she wanted the same thing. "It's okay Sue. I was just finishing up, you don't have to leave." He picked up another towel and wiped his mouth. Grabbing his T-shirt and throwing it on, he walked towards her picking up his other clothes, taking care to make sure the towel around his waist didn't slip. His eyes never left hers as he walked by. Sue didn't move and he reached out and ran a finger softly over her cheek. He couldn't walk by without at least touching her. What he really wanted to do was take her in his arms and kiss her. It took a lot of willpower to finally walk on by. As Brian left, Sue let out the breath she was holding and walked over to the bath tub burying her head in her hands. How could she have been so stupid as to have just barged in the bathroom door like that. It's not like she didn't remember Brian was here. It's all she had thought about all night. His presence was all consuming for her. She hadn't given it a thought though that he might be in the bathroom. Having walked in on him standing there in only a towel was a little disconcerting. It went without saying that he had nothing on under that towel and her body had heated uncontrollably. It was hard to avert her eyes from him and she had failed. When he touched her ever so slightly she trembled with longing for him. She knew now that there was no way she could mix Brian up with the other man who was pretending to be him. Her Brian affected her as no one ever had before. Simply a look or a smile had her wanting him. The other one hadn't had that effect on her and she had been scared her interest in Brian had been waning. As soon as Brian had returned she had known. It was a chemistry thing, and the tension between them was palpable. She could feel it. She knew he could too. They both wanted more than they were truly ready for. It scared her to feel so strongly about him in such a short space of time. She got up realising sitting on the edge of the tub wasn't going to get her anywhere. She had to shower and dress before trying to find Brian and spend what little time they had together. She wanted to spend every moment with him that she could. Who knew when he would next get the chance? She was hoping to one day be able to go visit him too, but she wasn't sure when that would be yet. Breakfast began awkwardly but soon turned into a comical event. Brian was making Sue laugh so hard she spilled her juice, and nearly spat her toast across the room, instead choking on it leading to him having to help her. He really had a gift for making people laugh and today Sue was his target. She watched him and laughed at his antics, knowing as she did that she was falling deeper in love with him. They spent the day in the house, watching TV, talking and generally just being together. Neither one of them felt like doing a lot more than that, happy to just be spending time together. They made plans for the next day though, a long drive to the beach on the East coast. She was looking forward to that. Later that evening after an early dinner there was a knock at the door. Sue went to see who it was and clapped her hand over her mouth as she looked through the peep hole and seeing the other guy out the front. She ran back to Brian. "Brian, he's here. What will I do?" He was on his feet in an instant, pulling Sue into his arms to calm her down, his hands stroking her hair reassuringly. "Don't answer it." "I have to," she said looking up at him for support and drawing it from his embrace. "He'll know I am home, all the lights are on." Brian sighed resignedly. "You're right. Get rid of him Sue, I don't want him near you." "I don't want him near me either. What am I going to do?" "Tell him you aren't feeling well. That should do the trick. I'll be here Sue." Sue nodded and walked to the door, motioning for him to hide. She plucked a tissue out of the box on the table before she opened the door to a smiling 'Brian' in front of her. The resemblance was uncanny. She used all her dramatic training, of which there was not much, and sneezed loudly. She blew her nose, wondering if this was sounding convincing. "Oh hi Brian," she flinched as she called him that. "Woah, you don't sound well," he said as he walked in. "I'm not, I was just heading to bed actually." He pulled her into his arms. "What? You don't want to see me?" Sue pulled away. "It's not you Brian, I just don't feel up to any company right now. You understand don't you?" He looked disappointed, but she wasn't about to feel sorry for him. "Yeah, I guess." He reached out and touched her arm and she stiffened, pulling away suddenly. "Sue, what's wrong?" He started to wander through the house and Sue was beginning to panic. She sneezed again and he returned. "I think I better let you get to bed." They walked to the door together and he leaned in to kiss her. "You better not Brian, I would hate you to get this cold and not be able to sing." "Yeah, right." He clicked his fingers as he said it. Still he leaned down and kissed her on the cheek softly. "I'll see you soon. I'll give you a chance to get over this. Take care, won't you?" He sounded sincere. He was out the door quickly then, running at a slow pace to his car. He climbed in the car, the soft glow from the interior only on for moments. He threw his jacket in the back as he did so. Before Sue even realised, he was gone, and she breathed a sigh of relief and walked back in looking for Brian. For Fifteen minutes she looked with no success and she was confused and beginning to worry. Where on earth could he be? There was just no sign of him. Out the front, his car still sat across the road, both of them realising that he couldn't park it in her driveway. So he hadn't left in his car. She tried his cell phone, but all she was getting was an operator telling her the phone was either out of range or switched off. In the end all she could do is wait. She sat on her lounge, hugging a pillow to herself driving herself crazy trying to think up scenarios as to Brian's whereabouts but coming up blank every time. ********** Brian had left the house just in case the impostor had decided to take a look around the house. He had quietly stolen around the front of the house to check on the car sitting in the driveway. He walked around it, peering inside when he noticed it wasn't locked. He quietly clicked the handle, pulling the door open and climbing in the passenger seat. He opened the glove box to examine what was in there, to see if there was any way he could identify his impostor. Nothing more than a few slips of paper, a road directory, a packet of gum and a pen. That gave him no indication to the identity of the man. He climbed in the back, looking at some books laying on the floor of the car. Nothing of any interest there, the whole car had nothing to help him. Just as he was about to get out of the car, he noticed the door of the house open and the man running at a slow pace towards his car. Brian was trapped. Where could he go now? Being only small, he curled up on the floor and hoped he wouldn't be seen. The car light illuminated and he curled up a little further. The guy threw his jacket to the back, semi covering him as he did so, so Brian was able to breath a sigh of relief about that. All he could do now, is hope he didn't get caught at the other end, wherever they were going. He hoped it wasn't too far. He turned the music up loud so Brian didn't need to be worried about being heard, but quietly he reached for his cell phone and switched it off. He didn't need to be receiving a phone call now and be discovered. He had no idea which direction they were heading in, so he just lay there in the confined space and waited. There wasn't a whole lot more he could do. Thankfully the car slowed and stopped about 15 minutes later, sounding like it was in some sort of garage, and when the guy left the car, he also left his jacket in there. While waiting a little bit of time to make sure he had left the car completely, Brian rifled through the pockets of the jacket, still finding nothing of any interest. He counted to 50 then decided he could safely get out of the car, hearing nothing close by. All he hoped was he would be able to get out again. He sat up slowly looking out the window to check his surroundings. The coast seemed clear and he softly unclicked the latch of the car praying there was no alarm on it. Nothing happened and he slowly climbed out, stretching his limbs when he stood. That cramped space had been just short of torture. He looked around the garage he was standing in, and noticed a door he would be able to leave from, but a little bit of snooping wouldn't hurt. As it turned out though, there was nothing to be found in the garage either. He was beginning to get nervous at being here, and decided it was time to leave. Besides, Sue would really be frantic about now, not knowing where he was. There had been no chance to ring her yet, and she had no idea what had happened since he left the house. He smiled softly at the thought of her worrying about him, but he hated the thought that she was. Just as he was about to leave through the garage door he heard voices, or more precisely one voice. He looked about to see where he could hide and saw a gap between two steel cupboards, quickly hiding in there. Hoping the darkness of the garage would keep him hidden, he stayed quiet, holding his breath as he waited. "Yeah, I was with my girl just for a few minutes though .. She's sick .. A game of cards sounds good . I'd rather be with her, but I can't . No, you aren't as good looking as her and I sure don't want to kiss you like I wanna kiss her." Then he was in the car and it was driving away, leaving Brian in his hideout wanting to rip the guys head off. He was speaking about his Sue like that. How dare he! Normally a fine upstanding citizen who respected the law, he decided this time a little bit of snooping wouldn't hurt. He poked his head out of the hiding space to see the car gone, the garage door shut again. Going to play cards he had said. He will be gone for hours. He walked to the door the guy had walked out of and turned the handle, only to be disappointed to find it locked. "Damn," he whispered and stood there contemplating his next action. He wasn't game to ring Sue yet, in case there might have been someone else close by to hear him. He chuckled to himself. And if there was, they would have heard him if he had gone into the house. He walked to the door leading to the outside. He prayed there wasn't some huge dog out there and he would have to make a run for it. He opened the door and looked around. He whistled softly, to catch the attention of any lurking dogs, only to come up empty. "Phew" he sighed, leaving the garage. He walked around the back and noticed one curtain open in the back rooms and decided to take a peek. When he looked inside he almost wished he hadn't. There on the wall he saw a picture of himself, with a great big red X through it. Then another pic of himself and Sue taken some time ago, before he had gone on tour. He didn't remember that pic being taken. Again he had a big red X through him, but the fact that he put, what was obviously a pic of him right next to Sue on the other side seemed to indicate to him that he was trying to get rid of him and have Sue for himself. He saw red with anger and vowed he would catch this guy. Somehow he would find out... |
