ALPHA  GALAXY 

Also known as The Blinding, Alpha Galaxy is the largest of the Hellion fighting arms. Only experienced Warriors are given positions in Alpha Galaxy and command of an Alpha Galaxy unit, no matter the size, carries considerable honor. As such, the majority of warriors in Alpha Galaxy are seasoned veterans of past conflicts. Few freeborns ever get the chance to fight with Alpha Galaxy.
Alpha Galaxy is usually commanded by the senior Khan, though this is not always the case. On occasion a Khan uncustomarily attached to his previous unit in another Galaxy chooses to stay with that unit, deferring leadership of Alpha Galaxy to the saKhan. This practice has not occured in the last 50 years, however, and the last seven Khans have all chosen to transfer to Alpha Galaxy when they were elected.
The unit insignia for Alpha Galaxy depicts the head of a roaring ice hellion against a field of 41 stars. Each star represents a world of the Pentagon and Kerensky Cluster. The star depicting Strana Mechty shines brighter than the other 40 and the mane of the ice hellion stretchs out from this one star.

7th Attack Cluster      

The 7th Attack is generally regarded as the normal command Cluster of the Hellion's Claws. Thus, the best Warriors of the Clan are assigned to this unit. This wealth of experience makes the 7th the usual choice for the Khans Keshik, but the 150th and 40th Hellion Lancers have both also carried the honor of Keshik in the past, most recently in 2987, when Khan Jena Norizuchi, an Elemental Warrior, chose to command from her previous unit, the 40th Lancers.

Epitomizing the speed and tenacity of the ice hellion, all omnimechs of the 7th Attack Cluster weigh less than 60 tons.

150th Hellion Lancers		      


The 150th carries the unusual distinction as being a source for Loremasters. Over a quarter of the Ice Hellion's past Loremasters have, at one time or another, been assigned to the 150th. Because of this, past and current Warriors of the 150th refer to one other as 'Warrior Poets'. This attitude is also reflected in the leadership, as the Warriors of the 150th prefer to be led by a Star Colonel who has been named in the Rememberance.

The 150th is also considered the model Cluster for the Hellion's Claws, consisting of three swift Supernova Trinaries and a single Aerospace Trinary. This combination of Omnimech, Elemental, and Aerial forces has proven to be a effective mix.

77th Hellion Lancers		      


The 77th contains the majority of Alpha Galaxy's aerospace support. Though often bid away from battle, the 77th Lancers are indespensible in the task of guarding dropships en route to battle and clearing the skies in large engagements. The ability to call upon the talents of the 77th's Aerospace pilots has more than once turned defeat into victory.

78th Hellion Lancers		      


The 78th Lancers is an oddity in the Ice Hellion Touman: a heavy 'mech-oriented Cluster. Although Heavy 'mechs are not an uncommon sight as command 'mechs, few stars are dedicated solely to the large, ungainly Omnimechs that weigh more than 60 tons. Because few Hellion warriors prefer Heavy or Assault-class 'mechs, this cluster must sometimes fill its ranks with less experienced warriors than the other clusters of Alpha Galaxy. For most Abtahka and freeborn Warriors, the 78th is the most glamorous unit they can expect to join.

40th Hellion Lancers		      


Because Elemental Warriors are generally held in lower regard than their Mechwarrior or pilot counterparts, few are given command positions in the Ice Hellion Touman, deferring leadership to a Mechwarrior instead. The opposite is true for the 40th Hellion Lancers. The 40th is the only Cluster in the Claws where Omnimechs are considered secondary to Elementals. Riding into battle on the backs of quick 'mechs such as the Fire Moth, the highly trained Elementals of the 40th then dismount and cause confusion while their transports corral enemy forces into the foot soldiers' path of destruction.

The 40th is also especially adept at headhunting - quickly eliminating the enemy commander and supply depots, disrupting both communications and the chain of command. More than once has an opponent underestimated the 40th Lancers and lost his life because of it.
