Masjid and Community Information
The Islamic Center of North Louisiana (ICNL) was
established in 1989 (1410 AH) as a nonprofit, nonsectarian religious,
educational and cultural organization. Services provided by the ICNL include
congregational prayers, Ramadan iftaars and taraveeh, a sunday school, eid
programs, educational lectures, and interfaith activities. The center services
the Muslim community of north Louisiana. Center’s membership includes many
ethnic groups and represents Muslims from all over the world.
The
Muslim Community in the Ruston and Grambling Area has over 200 Muslims, from
many ethnic and social backgrounds. Significant numbers of African-American,
Indian and Pakistani, Yemeni, Palestinian, North Africans and Turkish Muslims
make up the majority of the community population.
Nestled among the rolling piney hills of Northern Louisiana,
Ruston, with a down-home atmosphere coupled with the educational impact of not
one, but two, nationally recognized universities and the state's lowest
unemployment rate, is one of the best small cities in the nation. Located on
Interstate 20 just 30 miles west of Monroe and 80 miles east of Shreveport (view
a map here), Ruston is home to some 22,000 residents. Growing numbers of
families are moving to Ruston for a variety of reasons. There are many newcomers
to the area, but the city is steeped in history, marked by the continued
improvement and upkeep of downtown Ruston, one of the city's main shopping
areas.
