A Little Star's Page

What really makes wishes come true
is the little wishing star we already have
inside our hearts.

Whenever I illustrate
anything, I am reminded of how lucky I am still
doing what I have always loved doing ever since
I was a little girl. I feel it is a unique privilege,
not to ever let go of what you enjoy doing,
to occasionally give joy to others, and even make
a living out of it! And I have been at it--my parents
tell me--ever since I could hold a crayon in my right
hand without eating it. When I was eight, I got my
first check for a drawing I sent the children's
TV show "Uncle Bob". It was for ten pesos. I sent
more drawings after that, because I figured I could
easily earn 100 pesos if I sent 9 more drawings.
In a month, I made the first ever 100 pesos I made
in my life. That was probably the first time I realized
I wasn't going to be a doctor when I grew up.

Just what does it
take to become
a wishing star?
Just what does
it take for a dream
to come true?

Estrellita wanted
to be a wishing star.
Grandma Star
used to say that
it was what good
stars were supposed
to be, so they can
help make people's
wishes come true.
And so Estrellita
badly wanted to
become a
wishing star.
