TP&C Line Design

Organization

TP&C Line Design
Subcommittee –15.11

Chair: Glenn Davidson - Power Engineers
Scope:
  Treatment of all matters of economical and technical design, theoretical and experimental performance, installation, and service operation of transmission and distribution conductors and overhead ground wires, their supporting structures, associated splicing and hardware components, and counterpoise and structure grounding.

Steering Working Group – 15.11.01
Chair:  Dale A. Douglass – Power Delivery Consultants, Inc
Scope: To assist and advise the Chairman of the TP&C Line Design Subcommittee on matters of administration, coordination and planning for the subcommittee and it’s working groups.
.
W.G. ON  T&D OVERHEAD CONDUCTORS & ACCESSORIES – 15.11.02/06
Chair: Craig Pon – Kinectrics

Scope: Treatment of all matters pertaining to the mechanical, electrical, thermal and environmental aspects of overhead transmission and distribution conductors, shieldwires and accessories. As the following relate to conductors, shieldwires and accessories;

  1. to encourage, and to provide a forum for, the exchange of information and experiences among utilities, suppliers, consultants and academic institutions;

  2. to create and maintain, IEEE standards, papers and other documents as appropriate;

  3.  to provide a forum for introduction of new technologies;

  4. to provide a forum for individuals to network with others who have common interests;

  5.  to provide liaison with other industry groups with similar interests;

  6. to keep abreast of new or emerging areas and issues and to take action, if required

.
W.G. on Construction of Overhead Lines – 15.11.03
Chair:  Doug Proctor - Proctor Engineering, Inc.
Scope: Investigate, evaluate and report on methods, equipment and tools that have been found practical for assembly and erection of structures, installation of foundations, grounding, and stringing of overhead transmission line conductors and overhead ground wires.  To coordinate, review and develop papers, guides, standards and related efforts directed toward more efficient, safer and higher quality construction of overhead transmission lines.
.
W.G. on T&D Line Design Methods – 15.11.04/05
Chair:  Richard Collins - CAI
Scope:  The treatment of all matters related to the environmental loading (ice and wind) and structural performance of transmission line structures, conductor systems, and associated components. Overhead line design methods and permitting activities necessary to evaluate meeting simultaneous routing, economic, and environmental transmission line constraints.
.
W.G. on TP&C Changes to the NESC – 15.11.07
Chair:  Nelson G. Bingel, III - Osmose Wood Preserving, Inc.
Scope:  Address issues related to the National Electrical Safety Code and submit change proposals on behalf of the working group.  Monitor other significant change proposals and conduct educational sessions.
.
W.G. on T&D Overhead Line Structural Materials & Hardware – 15.11.08/10
Chair: Robert C. Peters - RCP Engineering
Scope:  To promote, coordinate, review, develop, and execute technical papers, guides, standards, bibliographies, and related efforts concerning design, testing and installation of overhead line structures and line hardware for use on electric power transmission and distribution lines.
.
W.G. on Management of Existing O.H. Transmission Lines – 15.11.09
Chair: Andy Stewart - EDM International, Inc.
Scope: To provide a forum for information exchange and discussion of existing technologies and technology needs for inspection, assessment, management and utilization of overhead lines.  Develop papers or guides to present methods for assessing and extending the life expectancy and optimizing the use of the components of existing overhead lines.
W.G. on CORONA & FIELD EFFECTS – 15.11.11
Chair: David Phillips - Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center - U.S. Navy
Scope: Analysis and calculation of corona on conductors, structures and hardware.  Analysis and calculation of electric and magnetic fields on and near conductors, structures and hardware

W.G. on TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION  CORROSION Management (teg368)  – 15.11.15
Chair: Neal Murray – Electric Power Research Institute
Vice-Chair:
Ken Brown – Bonneville Power
Secretary:
Hank Kleinfelder – Pole Maintenance Company

Scope: To provide an open forum for electric utilities, consultants, and industry suppliers to discuss grounding and corrosion issues in electrical power and transmission and distribution systems. The mission is to produce guides and standards for inspection, mitigation, and remediation of corrosion damage on T&D facilities.
