For students, teachers are the link between the known and unknown. With education people become better citizens, communities work more closely together and the world is forever renewed. Without education we are no better off than the rest of the animal kingdom.

I believe all children have an innate desire to learn. Without that desire, infants would not be able to master their surroundings in such a short amount of time. Constructivist philosophy states that children learn best when they are taught in terms they understand. Children are not blank slates; they arrive on the first day of school with varying levels of competency. The competent practitioner helps children build learning foundations and traditions for success.

As a pre-service teacher, I will remain cognizant that I am to follow as much as I lead. Even as an In-service teacher it is important to remember that we are not affective unless we meet the needs of our clients--developing learners. The first step in correcting a problem is look for background information. Thus, background information concerning a learner comes in the form of pro-active listening on the part of the instructor.

My mission is to provide the developing child with authentic activities, developmentally appropriate practices, manipulatives and lessons that are just as interesting as they are challenging.
