The Biblical Doctrine of Love
The Biblical doctrine
of love is very different from the worldly concept of love. Worldly love is selfish, Biblical love is
selfless. Worldly love is concerned with
what one can get, Biblical love is concerned with what one can give.
Bottom line, Biblical
love is defined as an action, not an emotion.
The most comprehensive Biblical passage on love is found in First
Corinthians 13. Paul, in the middle of
his discussion on Spiritual gifts, breaks into a treatise of Biblical love that
is divinely inspired and, as such, is beyond any human definition of love.
