MISSION STATEMENT Immanuel-St. James Lutheran works to create joyful and faithful Christian servants through quality education. * History Immanuel-St. James Lutheran School has been a cooperative venture between two churches for 27 years. Immanuel has had a school since 1859. Jesus is the reason Immanuel-St. James exists. * Two Sites Preschool and grades K through 3 are housed at the St. James building on Oakwood NE near Knapp St. in the Riverside neighborhood. Upper grades (4-8) are housed at Immanuel, near museums, galleries, and the Grand Rapids main library. * Enrollment (1999-2000) The K-8 student body numbers 157 students. Preschool has 75 students. Class sizes are limited to no more than 22 children for the best teacher/student interaction. * Curriculum Immanuel-St. James has a strong core curriculum consisting of religion, language arts, math, social studies and science. Enhancements include physical education, art, vocal and tone-bell music, computers, basketball, cheerleading, volleyball, track and musicals. Immanuel-St. James has a history of student excellence. * Food Service Hot lunch is offered two days a week at each building and parent volunteers provide pizza lunch on Fridays in both buildings. * Transportation Busing is available (by Grand Rapids Public Schools) for Grand Rapids residents, with a shuttle bus from St. James to the Immanuel school. * Tuition Tuition is among the lowest of parochial schools, preschool through eighth grade.
