Growth in Applications and Complementary Technology
The success of GPRS also implies growth in applications and complementary technology. However, the quality of applications will also drive the demand for GPRS-enable devices, after all, what's the use of switching to GPRS technology, if it doesn't make anything better?

The development of non-voice, interactive, and multimedia applications will flourish because of the new capabilities that GPRS allows mobile devices. However, it is a requisite that these applications be of good quality and importance to the end user. Otherwise, the application developers not only risk their businesses, but that of the whole mobile Internet industry as well.

To be able to drive the mobile industry, users must be able to do everything they can from their desktop computer and their fixed telephone line on their mobile devices. This includes business transactions, communication, and entertainment. These factors entail necessary developments in policy and infrastructure similar to that which exists for the fixed desktop connection, such as security, privacy, and copyright. Complementary technology, both software and hardware, need to be developed to address these issues, and offered to the end users.

The development of quality applications and complementary technology require the success of GPRS, and the assurance of these commodities will help ensure this success. The development of GPRS technology holds much promise not only for devices and applications, but as well as commodities and applications available over the Internet.
