Wings

I see around me forces
That wind to the ends of earth flings
But since I have no earth signs
Allow me to have wings.

On a delicate flower
Like a butterfly I will rest,
Like a hummingbird I will hover
And build on tree branches a nest,

I'll fish in the sea like a seagull
Or like a starling will fight,
I'll soar above like an eagle
And stay up for hours in flight,

I'll catch the mice like an owl
And like a hawk swing down on them,
White rabbits I'll disembowel
And make them drown in phlegm,

Pigeon-like I'll eat bread crumbs
Or like a sparrow, wheat -
Pieces of candy, white ones,
Blue ones and ones like meat -

Cardinal-like, flamboyant
Or like a blackbird coy -
Or like a bluejay royal -
Flying with birdling's joy -

Flying from flower to flower
And from a tree to tree
In snow or sun shower -
Fully, completely free

I'll flutter like a swallow
Or like nightingale sing -
Every day; each tomorrow -
With an inspired wing

I'll hover like a raven
Over the lakes and trees -
Like angel I'll fly to heaven
And mingle there with the breeze

And as I soar up to splendor
And in its white light I burn
Endless my life I will render
And to the truth I’ll return.
