More Money Saving Tips

Pay off your loans and credit cards promptly. If you have money sitting in your savings account, but owe on credit cards, you are losing the battle. You are paying a much higher percentage rate on your credit card than you are gaining in your savings account. By using that money towards paying off the credit card, you are saving yourself a lot of money down the road. It is as easy as it sounds. And once you pay off that credit card, don't use it unless you can pay it off every month or need it just in case of an emergency.

Take coffee with you in a thermos. Pack a lunch. The money you would have used for coffee and lunch at work can be saved to pay off bills or towards investing.

Plan meals ahead by the month or at the very least one week ahead. Go to the store on a full stomach and follow the list closely. Be sure to use coupons, but only on things you would buy anyway. Don't buy something just because you have a coupon for it.

If you have an older car, carry only liability insurance. Save the extra money towards your next car or investments.
Maintain your vehicle. Over time you'll save a lot.

Shop at garage sales and Thrift stores. You can find great deals. Only buy what you will use or something that you need to replace.
Also, sell things you no longer need (remember those things that have sat in a box for a year?) at a garage sale or thrift stores. This could be a little extra income. Plan ahead of time what you will do with this extra money. Usually you should save it for future investment or use it to buy something you have been needing.

Have only one set of sheets for each bed. This not only saves money, but cuts down on clutter.

Buy  clothes on clearance. For kids, skip to a size larger. Unless you have a child near the age of 10-13. It gets more difficult since they often tend to skip several sizes at one time.

Cut back on buying drinks. Start drinking water. This could save hundreds of dollars each year.

Go to free community concerts.

If you must go to the movies go to the matinee, the $1.50 theatre, or pile in and find a drive-in!  Even better, borrow movies from the library. Those old movies are the best!

For hobbies. Plan to have a hobby where that can save money. Pick your own fruit, or do something where you make a craft and give it as a gift for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays..

This helpful tip is from Jennifer Miller:
My daughter has outgrown sippy cups, but isn't quite "careful" enough for a regular cup. I have saved a few 20 oz. plastic bottles and a few tops to dishwashing liquid bottles. The tops fit the 20 oz. bottles and she loves them. No more spending $$$ on those squire tops and a lot fewer spills!! These bottles with squirt tops also work great for storing paint and salad dressing.
Thank You Jennifer for that GREAT tip!
