Harish Trivedi is a founder
trustee and the Chairman of the India Foundation. He is a naturalized US citizen
and a resident of that counrty for over thirty years. His academic background
includes Masters, bachelors degrees and diplomas, certificates in Economics,
Political Science, Law, Statistics, Library Science, Information Science,
Management as well as a (incomplete) Doctorate in Theatre and Communications
from Michigan State University.
Languages: Hindi, Gujarati and
Marathi. These are all Indian regional languages, Harish is fluent in writing,
reading, convrsation and translation from any of these languages in to and from
english. His writings have appeared in
numerous newspapers and periodicals in the US and India.
| Harish has, for the India Foundation, curated
five Film Festivals, four arts and photo exhibits that included over 90
films in thirteen Indian languages and over two hundred works of art and
photographs. Some of the festival films were shown for the very first time
in this country.
Harish has produced all the cultural programmes including the dance and
music festivals. Over 300 performing artists from India have participated
in these events in Dayton and across the US. |
Plays written (In Gujarati)
include, Kedi Karyalaya, 'Dhingali Ghar', Darpan, Takhto Boleche, Kanchan
Bhayo Katheer. A Hindi version of 'An Inspector Calls' and
Pirandello's 'Six Charaters In Search of An Author' called 'Khoj' Harish's
Gujarati and English docu-drama 'Narmad - Maari Hakikat' and 'Narmad -
My Life' have been performed in many major cities in the US, London, Paris
and in over fifteen cities and towns in Gujarat. Over fifty-thousand people have
seen the plays. The play is based on autobiographical writings of the 19th
century social reformer, patriot and pioneering prose writer from Gujarat -
Narmad (Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave) A second revised edition of the english
language biography called NARMAD by Gulabdas Broker and originally published by
the Sahitya Academy has also been brought out by the India Foundation. 'Narmad
- Maari Hakikat' has been published by Kala Gurjari of Mumbai, India
A one-man show based on the writings of Mark Twain called 'MARK TWAIN IN
INDIA' was created, produced and directed by Harish Trivedi. The lead role
of Mark Twain was played by internationally known Mark Twain impressionist
McCovoy Layne. He came highly recommended by the Mark Twain Society, Elmyra, New
York and also by Arts and Entertainment Network. He has also appeared in a
documentary on Mark Twain produced by A & E.
Both,
'Narmad - My Life' and 'Mark Twain In India' were produced with a grant
from Culture Works and Montgomery County Arts and Cultural
District. The english version of 'Narmad - My Life' is being
published by a cultural trust in India and would be released later in Fall this
year.
Other publications: Five Folk Plays ( a collection of translation of five
Gujarati folk plays - Bhavai) published by Michigan State University and
edited by Dr. Farley Richmond, 'Poetry : India, an anthology of poems
written by expatriate Indians living in the US and Canada. It includes poems in
ten Indian languages published in the original script and accompanied with an
english translation of the same, perhaps the very first anthology of this kind. DOSTEE

Soon to be staged: ECHOES a mixed media presentation in english about
India's partition and Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
