Summary: Max Evans thought he was doing the right thing when he travelled back in time to change the future. But Fate had a different idea...
Spoilers: Season 1 and 2 in general, more specifically "The End of the World" and "Departure"
Author's note: You don’t need to have ever seen an episode of Quantum Leap to enjoy this fic, but if you are totally unfamiliar with the show, I suggest you read this little recap they did at the beginning of each episode:
“Theorizing that one could time travel within his own life time, Dr. Sam Beckett led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top-secret project known as Quantum Leap. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Dr. Beckett prematurely stepped into the project accelerator and vanished. He woke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was maintained through brain waves transmissions with Al, the project observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Sam could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right that once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home...”
If it helps you seeing the characters in your mind, Sam is played by Scott Bakula and Al is played by Dean Stockwell (who played Jason Behr’s father in "Rites of Passage” and Majandra Delfino’s grand-father in “The Tony Danza Show”, which would make Jason Majandra’s uncle, or something :) )
