I have been a breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers
since 1976. Breeding and competing with my dogs
has been a passion, not a business. Each litter
is carefully planned with a continuing goal of excellence
and improvement. I breed for a true dual purpose
dog that excels in field instincts, temperament, confirmation,
soundness, and above all, that special "something
unknown" that makes a good dog great.
When asked what lines I have I can only say "Indian
Hill". A quarter of a century of selective
line breeding with both American and German bloodlines
has created a distinct and individual line. Given
the opportunity Indian Hill German Shorthairs are consistently
close working dogs that point, and retrieve naturally
on both land and water. They are within correct boundaries
for the standard, eager to please, and "biddable".
From 1989 to 1998 I was owner/operator of a 900 acre
hunting preserve in Western Minnesota. What a
proving and playground for a field dog! Most of
my breeding stock was at one time a guide dog on the
preserve. As well as guiding for a wide variety
of hunters they have also guided for youth groups such
as the 4-H shooting project , and for handicapped persons,
where a solid temperament and a steady point is of the
utmost importance. While closing the preserve
was a difficult decision, I now have the opportunity
to own my weekends to compete, hunt, and play with my
dogs.
I currently live on a 30 acre hobby farm where my
partner Steve and I combine forces to total over 50
years of raising, loving, and hunting behind our dogs.
One or the other of us is a member of he German
Shorthair Club of America, the German Shorthair Club
of Minnesota, the Minnesota Purebred Dog Breeder Association,
the English Springer Spaniel Club of America, as well
as several other breed and hunting or conservation organizations.
We have also had the pleasure of judging hunt
tests, lisenced All Age field trials, 4-H shows at local
and state level, and conducted many training seminars.
We have participated at state, national and Canadian
competitions in confirmation, field trials, hunting
tests, obedience, and agility competitions, and our
dogs have titled in all of these areas.
All of our dogs live in the home as active family
members. They are handled and socialized from
birth. They are raised with children, and other
pets. Each one receives the quality time one on
one with people they need to develop into easily trained,
happy companions.
