We
have no started dogs available at this time. Our
puppies are, however, doing a lot of things that could
label them started. They are showing promise of
having great noses and really working the cover well.
They are very biddable, working close, and responsive
to the whistle and voice. They love birds, and
love to retrieve. They live with us in the house,
are house trained, and great with the family.

Getting
a started dog or a mature dog can be a great experience
and is a very good option for some people. However,
it is something you should enter into with a lot of
thought and some research. Most of the dogs that
we offer that are "started" are puppies that
we selected to watch and work with... they are
our "pick" puppies, and showed a lot of promise.
On most occasions these puppies remain in our
home and become competitors and future breeding stock.
Occasionally one of these young dogs is offered
for sale. They have been socialized, lived in our home,
worked in the field, and often in the show ring. They
are excellent hunting and family companions.
Beware
of the other "started" dog that is often available.
He is the puppy that didn't sell. Because
he was trouble, he was put outside in a kennel, and
very occasionally taken out for a training session.
He is not socialized, and does not have the skills
to be a family companion. Another scenario we
see is the dog that just plain washed out of a training
program, but has a "month of professional training".
Always
try to get references, visit the kennel and the dogs,
and use your instincts as to why you feel this dog is
available. It may be a wonderful thing, or a unfortunate
mistake.
If
you are interested in a started dog, feel free to contact
us as occasionally we hear of a nice dog available.
