Due to over exploitation of groundwater in urban and rural areas for different purposes groundwater is fast depleting in quality and quantity and it is imperative to augment groundwater resources by recharge and rainwater harvesting. Scientific management f groundwater is essential in the coming years so as to make Tamil Nadu attain self-sufficiency in the water resources sector.
This course provides an opportunity to learn different techniques involved in Rainwater Harvesting.
To create awareness among literate and illiterate people and implement the same in rural and urban areas for self-sufficiency in water resources.
To introduce rainwater harvesting concept for groundwater management.
Admission is open to candidates who have passed +2 examination or a qualification accepted by the syndicate of this university as equivalent thereto.
The course is of a minimum of 240 hours duration of teaching and practicals.
Candidate shall be permitted to appear for the examinations only if he or she secures not less than 75 per cent of attendance in each subject/paper or as prescribed by the syndicate from time to time.
The course of study for the Diploma consist of three papers of four credits each including viva voce / practicals whichever is applicable according to the syllabi duly approved by the chairman of the Board of Studies concerned from time to time. There shall be a minimum of four units in each paper.
Paper I: Basic Geohydrology (80 hours - four lectures/week)
Paper II: Rainwater Harvesting (80 hours - four lectures/week)
Paper III: Practicals (80 hours - four lectures/week)
The examinations shall be conducted and valued by the teachers of the University Department itself that offers the course. The value answer scripts along with the mark lists duly certified by the head of the University Department concerned shall be forwarded to the Controller of Examinations for scrutiny and declaring the results and issuing the Statement of Marks from the University. A candidate who does not pass the examination in any paper/s shall be permitted to appear in such failed paper/s in subsequent examinations.
