To Winston Churchill

Fifty-five years of active service
To the Empire and the Crown,
He stood just like Gibraltar
The man they could not down.

As he bids farewell to Commons
Let us scan his course way back,
And we find him ever ready
      To defend the Union Jack.

Journalistic statesman, soldier,
      He’s brought his country fame,
When England lost at Dunkerque,
      He gained back at Alamein.

Man of Honor, man of vision
He kept us from being slaves.
He abided by the slogan
      That “Britannia rules the waves”

When future generations
Start out his deeds to span,
We hope that they remember
      He was half American.

God grant we get another
That is just as wise as he
After Churchill wrote his finis
      On his page in history.

Mississippi Press Article   (date unknown):
Scott finds writing poetry an easy pastime because poetry comes natural to the son of a former poet-laureate of Mississippi, Fred N. Scott, who among several works wrote “Pascagoula’s Indians and Mysterious Music”.
