VISA INFORMATION:

PROCEDURE FOR GETTING A VISA

Fee for VISA services will not be accepted in cash by mail. The Embassy will not be responsible for any loss of cash sent/returned through post.

Please fill up the visa application form completely, stating clearly the purpose of the visit to India. You can submit the completed visa form along with two passport-size photographs, support documents (this is necessary for certain kinds of visa for example business visa) and visa fee in person or by post to the Consular Wing of the Embassy of India, Vienna.

TYPES OF VISA (Visa starts from the date of issue)

Tourist Visa
Persons wishing to visit India for tourism or for meeting friends and relatives would be granted six month's tourist visa. Tourist visa is non-extendable and non-convertible. Travel agents who have to visit India frequently are however, eligible for tourist visa of a longer duration.

Business Visa
Visitors travelling to India on business can obtain business visa for up to 6 months. Longer term business Visa for up to 5 years validity with multiple entry can also be granted to frequent travellers and technicians/experts going to India in pursuance of bilateral agreement or joint venture projects having Government of India approval. Business visa travellers should enclose copies of documents from Indian companies/firms with which they have business dealings.

Student Visa
Student Visa can be obtained on furnishing proof of admission to recognized Universities/Institutions in India for the duration of the course of study.

Employment Visa
Employment visa can also be obtained on furnishing of proof of employment with companies in India.

Transit Visa
Transit visa of 15 days' validity for halts in India (up to 72 hours only) enroute to other destinations, should be obtained before departure since the same is not available at airports in India.

Entry Visa
For all other purposes, Entry Visa can be obtained, depending on the purpose of visit, eligibility, on a case by case basis.

Journalist Visa ('J' Visa)
Journalists can obtain Visa for three months (single entry) from the Indian Embassy directly on submission of documentary proof (employment card or original letter from a reputed News/Media agency where they are working or by the office who have given them assignment in India) to visit India for any purpose other than film shooting. The initial three month period can be extended by applying to the Publicity Officer (PR), XP Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi-110001. (Phone No. 3383462 and Fax. No. 3387075/3782391

Journalists who are going to India to work in any branch office of Foreign Media/TV can obtain six months multiple entry 'J' visa directly on application to the Embassy on production of letter of appointment by the Foreign Media/TV office. (This is applicable also to Journalists replacing a correspondent in India as well)

Foreigners need prior approval to shoot films in India, both feature as well as documentary. Application for permission to shoot feature/documentary films has to be made to the Embassy in a prescribed format along with an undertaking.

The list of documents needed to be attached with the application are:
1. Application Form for Visa
2. Application Form for filming documentaries in India along with undertaking.
3. Application for filming at protected monuments
4. List of team members along with name, nationality, date of birth, passport number, place and ate of issue and validity, occupation etc.
5. List of cinematic equipments with description and brand name
6. Synopsis of the proposed film project.
7. Filming programme stage by stage and date by date.
8. Letter from the producer specifying the hospitality required.
9. Publicity Returns: TV Channel where the documentary will be screened (details of date/time/duration etc.)

PLEASE NOTE

Application Forms, Undertaking and information sheets may please be signed by the Producer and submitted in nine sets. Also, it may please be noted that it takes a minimum of 4-5 weeks after the receipt of the completed application in the Embassy to process the case and for the Government of India' permission to come through. For a visa of long-term validity i.e. exceeding six months, registration with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival in India, is mandatory.

Pak Nationals should register with Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 24 hours of arrival and Afghan Nationals within 7 days of arrival irrespective of period of their visa.

INFORMATION FOR VISA APPLICANTS


EVERY FOREIGN NATIONAL MUST OBTAIN A VALID VISA TO TRAVEL TO INDIA
(EXCEPT BHUTANESE AND NEPALESE NATIONALS)


The Consulate General of India, Sydney issues Tourist/Student/Business/Employment and other types of visas to applicants who are residents of Australia. Australian passport holders can normally obtain a visa in 2 working days when applying in person at the counter subject to the application being complete and fulfils Consular requirements. Applications can also be lodged by post and through travel agents/ couriers, however, these may take up to 5 working days to process ( excluding mailing time).

All applicants are required to apply in the prescribed application form along with two recent passport size photographs, passport in original, flight details/itinerary and prescribed fee. Passport must be valid for a minimum period of six months. In cases of long term visas passport must be valid at least till the duration of the visa.

Applications for visas can also be lodged at High Commission of India, Canberra; Honorary Consulates in Perth & Melbourne.

Tourist Visa: Applicants are required to submit application form indicating the place(s) of visit, duration of stay and flight details/itinerary. For minor children (under 15 years) application MUST be furnished with a no objection letter from both the parents along with the photocopy of the relevant pages of their passports. The visa application for minor children MUST be signed by both parents.

Business Visa: Applicants are required to provide a letter from their local company as well as the company in India explaining the purpose of the visit, places to be visited and persons/companies to be contacted in India. The company in India should also furnish an undertaking as below, that it takes full responsibility for the stay and conduct of the applicant during his/her visit to India. Long-term business visas (up to 5 years) are issued in case of joint venture companies. Applicants applying for 5 years business visa are required to provide documents regarding the Australian company's joint venture with the local company in India,

Undertaking

We take full responsibility for the activities and conduct of Mr./Mrs./Ms. __________________________________
national of _________________during his/her stay in India. If anything adverse comes to notice during this period, we undertake to repatriate him/her on our cost.


Visas for non residents :
Visas can also be issued to applicants (visitors ) who are normally not residents of Australia and hold non-Australian passports. An additional form is to be filled in along with a visa application form. However, in such cases clearance from the Indian Missions/Posts in countries of their normal residence needs to be obtained. A minimum period of 5 working days is normally required for processing the applications. Applicants under this category are required to pay an additional fee of A$15.00. The fees are required to be paid at the time of lodging application.

Student Visa: Applicants are required to submit a copy of the letter of admission from the recognised educational institutions along with their applications. Applicants are advised to apply for visa well in advance as in some cases a processing time of at least 1-2 weeks is required. Cases where a reference to authorities in India is required to be made may take more time.

Journalist Visa: Applications for journalist visas where no filming is involved, can be made on the general visa application form. Issue of visas in such cases may take upto 4 days. Journalists seeking visas for filming documentaries in India are required to fill in separate forms and provide additional information sought therein. A declaration is also required to be made in respect of equipment being carried for filming. Processing time of at least 12 weeks is necessary.

Employment Visa: Applicants must provide certified copies of the appointment letter and contract/employment agreement from the employer including copies of documents relating to the company's incorporation in India.

Conference Visa: Applicant must provide proper document/letter of invitation from the organisers in India and sponsors from Australia regarding the conference. Processing time of 3 days is necessary for grant of conference visas.

Visas for Pakistani / Bangladeshi nationals: Pakistani / Bangladeshi nationals are required to fill up separate applications forms.

Visas for Sri Lankan nationals : Sri Lankan passport holders are required to furnish a letter from the Sri Lankan Mission in Sydney/Canberra certifying genuineness of their passports.
