Where to Bodyboard & surf in N.ireland
Surfing began in N.ireland in the '60's with 3 groups starting
simultaneously on the Causeway Coast, in Rossnowlagh and in
Tramore. The Surf Club of ireland formed in 1967, though it
ramains relatively undereloped by European standards.
The majority of waves come from lows tracking from the US to Iceland, deepening as they go. Surf comes from SW to N, as
the lows approach, with winds from the lows generally blowing SW. This means that the N and NW facing breaks, angled to
catch the swell, enjoy perdomainant cross/offshour winds. The
best times to vistit are spring and autumn, as during summer
swells are sporadic and flat periods can last two weeks. During
winter, surf is continuous but the water is colder and winds can
be very strong. Spring is often blessed with the best weather,
the water is still cool, but the swells start to settle and the surf
is consistent. September to November is prime time with winter
swells rolling in and fairly warm water. If youre used to
wearing a wetsuit, you'll find the temperatures acceptable up to
late november

Most of the surfers tend to ues the better know breaks and
most locals will give you a list of places
