Duke von Gigennstein is a special character for the Empire. No other army may use him. If you choose to include Duke von Gigennstein in your army he either replaces the general in the army list section of the Empire Army List, is an independent character, or leads a unit.

Duke von Gigennstein was born in to a noble family (if you hadn't guessed) ruling a huge plot of land in the north of the Empire.

As is customary for all noble children, he was taught every day the noble sport of fencing. Though he loved fencing he hated to kill a fellow human in a fencing tournament and so never rose to fame as a great fencer as he would have if he had been merciless. So as he stopped attacking, he moved towards the defensive side of fencing. He practised for hours on end developing his skills until he was a master at defense.

When his father died he inherited the land, and lived in relative peace for several years. However, he was not prepared for the sudden attack of Chaos from the north. With the little time he had he rallied the nearby Dukes and prepared a force to face the mighty Chaos legions. His attack would be faught at sunrise the following morning.

The Empire troops poured towards the Chaos ranks, weapons at the ready. The Duke led the army on foot, keeping their spirits high. He himself was untouchable. His defensive skills were invaluable as he cut down foe after foe, inspiring his comrades beside him to feats of great courage. With the battle swaying against them the Chaos legions retreated and peace returned once again.

Duke von Gigennstein has great self confidence. He leads the way against any foe, confident in his honed defensive skills. He is an inspiration to all around him and a wise and strong man.

WEAPONS/ARMOUR: Fencing Sword, Hand Pistol, Heavy Armour.

MAGIC ITEMS: Duke von Gigennstein carries the Talisman of Protection and a Fencing Sword. He may have a third magic item chosen from the Warhammer Magic Supplement.

MOUNTS: The Duke may ride a horse (+3 points) if he wishes, or he may ride a monster chosen from the monsters section of the Empire Army List.

Defensive Fencer

Duke von Gigennstein is an outstanding defensive fencer. He is reknown all over the Empire for these skills. To represent this, Duke von Gigennstein gets a 3+ unmodified save against all hand-to-hand attacks.

Fencing Sword

The Duke using a special light fencing sword. The Duke can strike with this sword much quicker than an ordinary one and it is much harder to block. Therefore in hand-to-hand combat the Duke gets +1 I and the enemy suffers -1 WS.

Talisman of Protection

The Talisman of Protection is a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation. It is inscribed with protective runes which protect the bearer against magical attacks. The talisman gives the Duke a 4+ dispel against spells and spell magic items. This is only a personal dispel and so models around him may still be affected.
