Alumni Club

The Alumni Club is a sub-group of this fraternity. The goal for the Alumni Club is to maintain a link between the alumni and active membership of the fraternity. I call this a club instead of a committee because it operates differently. Here, no one is obligated to do any work, but participation is encouraged. This allows people to join even they do not have much spare time to help out. All the alumni are automatically accepted into this group because they are the basis of the club. Anyone who wants to participate in our club activities can be a numbered member. Numbered members will receive special recognition here, where their name and profile will be listed on this page. If you would like to join the club, then please let me know and send me the profile you want to present here. Sorry, I choose the numbers in order to be consistent. If you chose to participate, I will send you information via email to keep you updated on what we are doing.

A- buddies

An A-buddy system is grouping of an active member and an alumnus. The active buddy is supposed to inform the alumnus buddy about upcoming events and encourage participation for the alumnus. Having a single connection to the active chapter makes it easier for the alumni to familiarize themselves with the current membership. It is just like having a penpal.
A-buddies was a large success before  in getting alumni to participate with the active membership. I plan on reviving this program and allow more flexibility. I was thinking of allowing people to chose their own A-buddy and allow multiple A-buddies that person can work with. People who are interested in obtaining an A-buddy should send me information so I can establish a list of pairings. You are free to chose your own A-buddy: simply send the name of other person you want to be paired with. If you do not mind, then I will randomly assign A-buddies.  I will post an list of A-buddies as I get the list of volunteers.

Steps to becoming an A-buddy:
1) Find an alumnus member (if you are active) or active member (if you are an alumnus) and get their contact information.
2) Introduce yourself to them and get to know them.
3) Inform them on the current happenings in the fraternity, school or your profession. Invite them to your events if possible.
4) Communicate with them on a periodic basis (e.g. two weeks).

My work is done once you can contact the other active or alumnus. You are pretty much free to do what you want as long as you can keep a continuous communication link. I encourage you to write profiles on the alumni so that we can publish it in the newsletter. If you already know the other person, then you may skip steps 1 and 2 and jump straight into step 3. This will save time. Please contact me if you are interested.

Members

00 Kenneth Cheung- Yes, I get to be number 00 because I am the first person to be in my own created club. I was in the Fall 2003 Ray Hancock pledge class and participated in the Alumni Committees in that semester and the next. I am the current Alumni  Secretary in case you did not notice (my name is on every page).

01 Robert Peeks- He has been a member since 1954 and leads the alumni and plans alumni events, such as the upcoming 2005 reunion. He has helped coordinate the 50th Anniversary fro the Gamma Beta Chapter in 1989.

02 Richwood Borja- From the Spring 2003 LA Class, this man knows how to make the moves. He is very enthusiastic when it comes to alumni work and was the Alumni Secretary in Spring 2004.He often works many sleepless nights to get the job done. His desire for a legacy helped spawn the 65th Anniversary project.

Memos

01.03.2006: The A-Buddy System was used well in 2005 and helped create articles for newsletters.
01.29.2005:
I need some help with the A-buddy program, or it may never be accomplished. The Reunion Committee is always active, so check it out!
10.24.2004:
I will unfortunately delay the A-buddy system until after December 4, 2004 because I am so occupied with schoolwork and the 65th Anniversary. This event is the biggest deal around.
09.12.2004:
The first priority is setting up the A-buddy system. I will contact those with previous A-buddies and ask if they would like to continue contact. Then I will ask the active membership if they want to have an alumni to talk to exclusively. Will you join in this network? The A-buddy system is critical in creating the basis of the newsletter.
08.22.2004: The A Phi O Reunion Committee needs help to verify contact information for alumni. If you can help, please contact me or Robert Peeks. Also, check out the Reunion committees' meeting minutes.
08.01.2004: I plan to have meetings some time in the near future. We will talk about the 65th Anniversary and ways to contact our alumni and maybe do some actual contacting. I would like more people to participate in the Alumni Club because I need more help to plan the projects and promote them. The alumni meeting minutes are coming soon.
