Here are some random factoids about me.

MY BRILLIANT (?) CAREER

For three summers in high school, I shelved books at University of New Hampshire Library.

My freshman year in college I worked for one quarter as the slowest busboy at Kalamazoo College Dining Hall.

Later in my college days, I worked part-time at Fort Lewis College Library in Durango, CO.

In the mid-1960's, having not learned my lesson yet about working in the food industry, I worked in the kitchen for 4 1/2 days at Palace Restaurant in Durango, CO, quitting probably just ahead of being fired.

For three summers in the mid-'60's, I managed the food/beverage concession on Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge, back when it was still part of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.

One spring in the '60's, i was employed by the Ferry Morse Seed Company Experiment Station in Caldwell, Idaho.

I taught English for two years at Aztec, New Mexico High School.

I had a summer internship from the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education to study the feasibilty of a vocational high school in Colorado's San Luis Valley.

I worked as a Reference Librarian for two years in the University of Michigan School of Public Health Library and in the Maternal and Child Health Department (now Reproductive & Women's Health).

For over a decade, I was the Library Director of the Missouri Botanical Garden Library in St. Louis.

For fifteen years, I earned all or part of my living as the proprietor of Simply Marbellous Hand Marbled Papers, producing and selling hand marbled stationery for nearly 150 galleries, shops, and museum stores around the country, including the Smithsonian Institution gift shops.

I worked two summers as the Acting Music/Art Reference Librarian at Lovejoy Library, Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

In the mid-80's, and again in the mid-90's, I worked in this very fine bookstore, Left Bank Books in St. Louis.

From the mid-80's to the early 90's, I was Executive Director of Craft Alliance, a non-profit visual arts education center and contemporary crafts gallery in suburban St. Louis.

I worked part-time in 1995-96 at Richmond Heights Memorial Library in suburban St. Louis.

At the same time, I was also working part time at The Book House in suburban St. Louis.

Eventually,I moved to California where I worked for a few months at the Palo Alto store of Borders Books and Music .

Currently I am employed as a Technology Writer and Researcher at PricewaterhouseCoopers Technology Centre in Menlo Park. Disclaimer: Nothing in this Website reflects any policy, opinion, or statement by my employer.

ORGANIZATIONS I’VE BEEN ACTIVE IN

I served as President of the University City Loop Special Business District in 1991 and 1992, and, along with Jay Brandt, founded the Loop in Motion Arts Festival.

I was an active member of the Craft Organization Directors Association , and served as their president in 1992-93.

I was an active member of The Guild of Bookworkers and provided a host site for their 75th Anniversary Exhibition as part of a book arts festival that included classes and workshops led by Twinrocker Handmade Paper, Don Guyot of Colophon Book Arts, book artist and conservator Hedi Kyle ,artist and illustrator Barry Moser,publisher David R. Godine, British bookbinder and conservator Bernard Middleton and other leaders in the book arts community.I worked closely with The St. Louis Calligraphy Guild on this Festival.

In the late 1970's, I served two terms as president of the Missouri Museums Association.

I was an active member in the Council of Botanical and Horticultural Libraries, and served one term as their President.
