Physical Readiness Test Up until this point, everything I had done had gone relatively smooth. I had my intellect tested with the Officer Qualifying Test, my body was examined during my physical, but now it was time to test my physical endurance. I knew this test would be my most challenging exam of all so I had been preparing for about two months to take this exam. I've never been a really physically active individual but over the last 8 months I've been going to the gym several times a week to do some type of exercise. However, the last two months I had really stepped up my exercise program. Not only was I running, I was doing situps and pushups along with working on other strength endurance machines. I felt that I was finally ready for the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) so I asked my recruiter to schedule the test the morning of August 27, 2001 at 9AM (by the way, that is my sister's B'day). In order to pass the exam each candidate must pass the following three exams in the time allotted for each:
There were three of us that took the exam on this morning, two men and 1 woman. Although I know I didn't do extremely well on this exam, I was the only one of the three of us that passed the exam. I did 38 pushups, 49 curl-ups and ran 1.5 miles in 11:58. It's important to also note that every 6 months, as a Navy officer, you are required to take a PRT. I have committed to a rigorous weekly exercise routine that I hope will prepare me for OCS. |
