Raven The largest member of the crow family. Ravens are usually seen on high ground. They can be seen locally on Fahan Hill, the hill above Hegarty's Rock
and in the mountains of Inishowen. They make their nest as early as February so that they can feed their young with other birds eggs and chicks.
Woodcock The Woodcock is well camouflaged to match the colours and patterns of dead leaves. This is a protection against predators including man.
If you happen to walk near it, it will only fly up when you are a few feet away. These birds can be found in the woods around Portaw Glen (see photo on introduction page )

Peregrine Falcon The Peregrine is a large fast flying falcon. This is the bird traditionally used by falconers to hunt with. It make lightning dives from a height on birds such as pigeons.
It is a bird of moorlands and mountains and also sea cliffs around Inishowen where it nests. It can be seen occasionally high in the sky around Buncrana.
