Important Terminologies
Air pollutant - smoke, dust, soot, cindes, fly ash, solid particles, gases, fumes, chemical mists, steam & radioactive materials that is detrimental to health or the environment.
Air pollution -any alteration of the atmospheric air or discharges thereto of substances detrimental to air resources or public health,, or affect the lawful utilization of said air resources.
Ambient air quality -atmospheric air’s average purity in a broad area.
Certificate of Conformity - issued by the DENR to a vehicle assembler/manufacturer or imp-orter certifying a vehicle meets the requirements under the Act.
Emission -any air contaminant, pollutant, or unwanted sound passed into the atmosphere. This would include CO, HC, NOx, particulate matter, SOx, benzene, aldehydes, among others.
Hazardous substances -causing acute(short-term) or chronic(long-term) toxicity, carcinogeci-ty, or resistance to detoxification process.
Mobile source -gasoline- or diesel-fueled vehicle used for conveying persons and goods.
Octane rating or anti-knock index (AKI) -rating of grade of gasoline recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the engine’s efficient operation without experiencing fuel knock.
Poisonous and toxic fumes -any emissions or fumes beyond WHO and other international standards or guidelines. Some fumes are VOCs, CO, PAH, PAN, NOx, SOx, and ozone.
Stationary source - any building or immobile structure emitting any air pollutant.
Smog -A murky brown haze formed under certain conditions and has adverse health effects.
