"Eastern Chronicle," Thurs, 19 Feb 1942, LATE AIRMAN'S PARENTS
RECEIVE LETTER FROM HIS OFFICER - Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Schrader have received
furthur details concerning the accident in which their son, Sergt.-Pilot HOWARD
SCHRADER, lost his life in England some weeks ago. He was instantly killed when
his plane crashed shortly after leaving the ground. It is believed the engine
failed, causing the tragic accident. With him at the time were an air observer
and a gunner. A letter forwarded by his group captain stated that the youth was
making excellent progress in his training and was working with the type of plane
he would have used when he joined an operational squadron. The letter carried
the deep sympathy of his officers and flying comrades. He was highly thought of
and the letter with its fine references to HOWARD will go far to assuage the
grief of the heartbroken parents. To know the details of his passing and his
funeral and to realize that everything was done as they themselves would have
it, relieve their many anxious and grief stricken hours.

"Eastern Chronicle," Thurs, 5 Mar 1942, FLIGHT SERGEANT
SCHRADER - Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE SCHRADER had a letter from England this week
informing them that their son Airman GEORGE HOWARD SCHRADER who was killed on
Dec.10th when his plane crashed in Kent had been promoted to the rank of Flight
Sergeant, effective Dec.1st. In a letter to his sister he told her he was slated
for the promotion but not to say anything about it as he wanted it to be a
surprise for his mother when he would write that he received the promotion. It
is indeed sad that his parents should hear that news over two months after
"Howie's" death, but it is gratifying to feel their son had played his
part so well and was such a credit to them and to Canada.
