22th July 02: 'InMe Free Gig' (InMe Gig) -Barfly @ The Monarch, London. Friday night 12th of April, 2002. We were ready to see InMe; the greatest band in the whole of the UK. We left at about 7.30, we were really stoked we were seeing them. When we got to the Joiners, it as smaller than we thought, a tiny little pub thing, we waited in line with the other grungers and a few Goths, it was freezing cold outside, but we only waited about 15 mins before we could go inside, it was so cool, we we stepped inside, the stuffiness of the air was really strong and warm, we were glad to be inside, there were to old yonks taking the money for tickets an stuff, just inside. We walked past the bar, into the tiny venue, the first thing Lou said when we walked inside was: "It smells funny in here, and its nice an warm." Anyway, there was a small table with SugaComa posters and InMe promo postcards, we quickly asked if they cost anything, the guy who sounded presumably stoned off his face, said a wirily: "They’re nothing." We grabbed handfuls of the InMe postcards. We waited round the small box room for ages till the first band were gonna come on, they were a local band from Southampton, called 'Dystemper', we were like, they better be good, we were right in front of the stage, no security guards or anything, they only had a 3 set song list, they were totally not organised, the lead singer, she was a really good singer, but the riffs and stuff were shit, their second bassist broke a string on his guitar, they were talkative though between songs. After they had finished, we had to wait for a while longer for InMe to come on, we were right at the front, and then suddenly Anna saw Dave round the corner, she was like yeah I can see Dave, it's Dave, we were the only 3 looking round this corner to see them, we saw Dave and he went past Lou and touched her shoulder, she said she couldn’t breathe (teenybopper) We were like just say hi, and she was standing there like omg no ah help! It was really funny, anyway we watched them set up their drum kit, amps an stuff, it was really cool, Joe and Simon walked through us into the bar and back again, it was cool! Finally they were ready, they came onstage and ripped into the first song, they rocked!!!! Dave was ripping his guitar like a knife through butter! After their second song, ('Crushed Like Fruit') the best! They introduced themselves, they said: "Thanks for coming tonight, we’re InMe by the way, and our album is out late spring, if u like what u hear." They had a really long set which ruled!!! Dave spoke again after the third song saying: "Ok, thanks for coming again, before we carry on, I need some water," funny stuff, he moshed to himself onstage, doing little jumpy things and getting his hair out of his face, during songs, he sang really high and went over to where Joe was and did a little jam thing with him, that was cool, we were the only people there to see InMe, everyone else wanted to see SugaComa we were the only ones singing as well, Dave noticed! And SugaComa was standing right next to us, just checkin out InMe and stuff. Finally Dave said, "Ok, this is our last song for tonight, hope u like it, its called 'Lava Twilight'. Straightaway we doing a bit of moshing to ourselves, it was heaps awesome live!! After they had finished their set, I did devil horns in the air and shouted INME!! They went over to the corner just waiting a couple of mins before they packed up their set, we were like we should go over now before its too late, finally we managed to run over there, Dave was talking to another person for a couple of mins, then he said he was a bit busy coz he had to pack up his amps and stuff, he walked back over to the stage we waited a couple of mins for him to get things organised, then Lou and Anna went up to him and asked for his autograph, I followed. We were talking to him while he was onstage and he got Simon and Joe to get our postcards signed as well, when he came back, I asked if I could take a pic, he said sure, and put his really cool shirt back on, over his Jimmy Hendrix t-shirt, he jumped off stage and came over, mum took the photo of us all, Dave in the middle, he put his arms round us all, and did devil horns, we then talked to him for a while after in front of the stage, we thanked him and he said he hopes to make it to NZ some time, he also said he loves our accents! Awesome aye? We stepped out of the mosh pit area just talking for a couple of mins of meeting InMe, SugaComa were on next, we didn’t come to see them so we left, we went back into the pub and we sat down, then me Lou and Anna asked if we could wait outside and see their tour bus, we went outside and waited, a couple of mins later Joe came out with his cam corder, everyone else was inside watching SugaComa, then after Anna said hi Joe, he was like "Hiii" and filmed us on his corder!, he was trying to unlock the tourbus but Joe and Simon were like: "Where’s the keys, we’ve lost them!" They found them in the end. Anna took a pic of them outside the tour bus, seeing as it was parked right in front of us. They posed happily for us, they went inside the bus, and were waving to us from inside, then Simon breathed on the window and wrote something to us, dunno what it was, we thought Dave was already inside the bus as well, but then he came outside, with a really cool green jacket on, Anna was like, "Dave, can i take a pic?" He was like "Yeah sure," he stopped and posed, Anna nearly blinding him with the flash! Then he talked to us for ages, saying "Shelly, I’ve lost my shelly while I was being silly onstage!" He said thanks again for coming and went into the tour bus with Simon and Joe, he said before he went, I have mullet hair! We waved bye. Dave came back out again when we were leaving, to see if we were still there.
