Welcome to Ken's Italian Genealogy Home Page

My genealogy database now contains over 3200 people, a good deal of which are Italian. I started researching my Italian roots when my grandfather, Francis (Frank) Cocchimiglio died in August of 1995 and among his papers was a copy of my great-grandmother's birth certificate. Anna Filomena Intrieri was born on 27 July 1893 in San Pietro in Guarano, a small hilltop town near Cosenza in the Calabria region of Italy.

I recently located her name in the passenger lists for New York. She sailed to the United States on the Prinzess Irene and arrived on January 25, 1906 with her Aunt Teresa and made her way to Philadelphia where her father, Antonio, was residing.

Here is a pictureofthe Prinzess Irene from 1905 that another researcher was kind enough to send me. It was obtained from the Ellis Island webpage. (Thanks Jonathan!)

Nineteen months later, at the age of 13, she married Saverio Coccimiglio, who I believe to be from San Mango D'Aquino, in the province of Catanzaro and also in Calabria. Here is their wedding picture from 22 August 1907.

Anna's parents were Antonio Intrieri (24 September 1865 - 12 January 1944) and Maria Costanzo (14 March 1867 - 13 December 1955). Both were born in San Pietro in Guarano and died in Philadelphia. Below is a picture of Anna and Saverio along with her parents(sitting) and her sister Luigina Francesca Intrieri (born 9 February 1895).

Anna's husband died in October 1918 during the flu epidemic in Philadelphia. She was now 25 years old and a widow and mother of 5. Around 1920 Anna married again. This time to Dominic Gorni. She and Dominic had 3 more children. Below is a family picture taken circa 1928.

From left to right are Francis Cocchimiglio, John Gorni, Pietro Cocchimiglio, Michael Gorni, Dominic Gorni, Pasquale Gorni, Anna Intrieri Gorni, Anthony Cocchimiglio, Pasquale Intrieri (Anna's brother), Carmella Cocchimiglio and Joseph Cocchimiglio

The San Pietro in Guarano Records are back online as of 27 December 1998. Click below to view records.

Awhile back I started out to transcribe all the birth, death and marriage records held by the Mormon Family History Library for San Pietro In Guarano. However I have had little time recently to devote to this task. Click here to see my work to date.

I have also created a list of Italian occupations and of Italian given names with their English equivalents.
Last Update: 4 February 1997.
