Recent announcements in the intranet- and
computer-based training market
Asymetrix Learning Systems Inc. has announced the availability of
Ingenium 4.0, a skills-based training management system intended to
automate instructor-led training, logistics and tracking of individual and
group competencies.

The redesigned product allows for enterprise-class scalability and features
a new client/server design and a new user interface that uses standard
Microsoft Corp. Office 97 features, according to Bellevue, Wash.-based
Asymetrix (www.asymetrix.com).

Oracle enters end-user training business
Enterprise software vendors typically have left end-user training to high-priced
consultants and outside training firms. But Oracle Corp., in Redwood Shores,
Calif., is breaking this tradition with Oracle Tutor, a new software-based
end-user training development kit.

Announced today, the build-your-own training application promises to
significantly reduce the time and cost of training day-to-day users of Oracle's
financial and manufacturing applications. That is because users learn only
those portions of the software they need to do their particular jobs.

Recruiters Lure Temps With Free IT Training

While lots of large companies debate policies on paying for IT training and
certification, one temporary staffing firm has made free IT training for the
masses a key part of its recruiting plan.

Manpower Inc., the Milwaukee-based employment giant, is offering free
information technology training through its Manpower Global Learning Center
(www.manpowernet.com), a new online university for its 2 million employees.
The service lets employees access material at their leisure on a variety of
technical subjects from Java programming to network administration. As part
of the plan, some training and career-planning information is available to
those who simply send the company a resume.
