NAVIGATION

This site is broken into six primary sections:

You can use the bar on the left-hand side at any time to access the main sections; it is always visible no matter what page inside the site you are at. In the top frame, there is also a graphical link to the main page, Site Map, and this Help page. Additionally, links are also available, in text format, at the bottom of each page to each of the main sections, Home, the Guest Book, Site Map, and this Help page. Also, links to pages from other sites will load in a new window so when you are done browsing, you can simply have to close the window and you are back at this site.

For even faster navigation, a "Quick Links" drop down menu is provided in the lower left hand portion of the side bar (only visible if screen resolution is larger than 640x480) - simply select the page title you are interested in, click the go button and you will be automatically redirected. You can also use the Site Map to navigate to any page in the site.

SEARCH THIS SITE

I have added a feature on the site that allows the capability to search all of the pages within the site. Thanks to FreeFind for the search capability.

By default the search engine tries to locate pages which have exact matches for all of the words entered in your search query. If that fails, it then tries to locate pages which contain any words in your search query. If that happens a short message is displayed at the top of the search results indicating this has been done.

In addition, there are several ways to modify the default search behavior.

  1. + and - qualifiers
If you prepend a word with + that word is required to be on the page.
If you prepend a word with - that word is required to not be on the page.
    Example: +always -never
  2. * wildcard
If a query word ends with a * all words on a page which start the same way as that query word will match.
    Example: gift*
  3. ? wildcard
If a query word contains a ? any character will match that position.
    Example: b?g

All of these techniques can be combined: +alway* -ne??r*

SCREEN RESOLUTION & COLOURS

The current layout of this site is designed for a minimum 640x480 screen resolution (15" monitor). At this resolution, the only thing you won't see is the Quick Links and the option to search this site on the side bar, but otherwise you can still navigate the site normally. However, I would recommend using a resolution of at least 800x600. I would also recommend using a monitor with more than 256 colours.

WEB BROWSERS

This website is designed to function on most browsers, however, for optimum viewing, it is suggested that you use Netscape 4.0 or higher, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.

BOOKMARKING & FRAMES

Because this site uses frames, it is difficult to bookmark a certain page on the site. Normally, when you try to bookmark a page, you will only have bookmarked the main index page. Also, when you try to load a separate page outside of the frames, you do not get the side or top bars. I have added some JavaScript to all of the pages in the site that helps to solve some of the problems. Some of the features seem to work in Netscape only and not in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

If you try to load a separate page outside of the frames that is supposed to be in this site, the page will load itself inside frames. In Netscape, the page you are trying to load will actually load inside the frames and the browser's location bar will have a link to the normal index.html page but will also have a question mark and the name of the page you are loading. For example, if you tried to load the whatsnew.html file by itself, the page would redirect itself to load inside the proper frames and http://ca.oocities.com/jabrams752@rogers.com/index.html?whatsnew.html would be displayed in the location bar. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, when you try this, it sends you to the main page and you still have to link to the page you want from there, but at least the proper frames are loaded for you.

This is a great feature that will allow for less confusion when another site or search engine links to one of the pages in my site but doesn't include the rest of the frames. Also, it is now possible, with a little manipulating, to bookmark any single page on my site (Netscape Only). Just create a bookmark pointing to http://ca.oocities.com/jabrams752@rogers.com/index.html and add a question mark (?) and the name of the page you want to access to the end of th URL.

WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO I USE?

I've got a digital camera - none of that hassle with film for me :) It's nothing special, I just got one that wasn't too cheap and not too expensive. It's a Canon PowerShot A100 with 1.2 megapixels and 3.2x zoom. I also take all my pictures with the flash off. When GBS first came on stage and the sun was still out, it was the easiest picture taking I've ever had to do. Every picture turned out great. But once it gets dark and they start using their lighting, it's more of a hassle. You have to wait for just the right moment when the lights aren't getting in the way and even then it's mostly just luck that most of my pictures do turn out. If I had a bigger memory card I could just take pictures like Lynda and delete the ones that didn't turn out later - she must spend a fortune in developing film! Of course, I usually go through at least 4 batteries during a show, 'cause my camera eats them up like nothing. I try to turn it off to save them, but then I end up missing some great stage moments. Also, because I have a digital camera I can see what the picture will be like before I actually take it. I don't look through the little hole, I use the LCD monitor to decide wheather I want the picture or not - that way I know if the picture is going to be good and if it is worth taking without wasting time, batteries, or memory on the card.
