On February 10, 1995, the Government of Canada and the Government
of Newfoundland and Labrador announced a new approach to regional economic development
when it released Community Matters: the Report of the Task Force on Community
Economic Development. Governments announced support for the creation of twenty
Regional Economic Development Boards for the purpose of planning and implementing
regional economic development initiatives.
