The Vaticinators

Written by Nessessitee.   Part 2 (approx 13 pages long)

Daniel's eyes slowly opened to the bright, warm morning. He took a few moments before he noticed the deep breathing next to him. Frowning a little, he tried to get his bearings when suddenly he heard the Colonel catch his breath then mumble something in his sleep. Daniel's eyes widened as he realised where he was. He was sleeping on Jack's chest, his arms flopped around the Colonel like he was a pillow.

"I said.. get off me, Daniel.." Jack mumbled again. Sitting bolt upright, Daniel looked around, his blue eyes still heavy with sleep.

"Oh, Christ!" he wasn't sure what surprised him more, the fact he was asleep on Jack or the fact it was morning. Jack sat up next to him, adjusting his neck a little, his eyes still firmly shut.

"Errrr... Jack...." Daniel patted his friend.

"I'm surprised Carter didn't send out a search party!" Jack muttered, his eyes still closed, as he ignored Daniel's pat.

"Err.. Jack!" Daniel patted him again, only harder this time. Jack rubbed his eyes then opened them slowly, taking a while to focus on the clump of spears pointed straight at him.

"Oh, shit... shit.." he followed the length of the poles to the natives behind them. "Hi!" he waved.

"Hi," Daniel smiled and pointed to his chest, "I'm Daniel Jackson, and this is Colonel Jack O'Neill," he started to get up slowly.

"Greetings," came the response.

Jack and Daniel turned to look at each other. "You speak English?" Daniel stammered incredulously.

"I speak 108 different languages," the man said stepping out from behind the clump of spears.

"108..? A hundred and... EIGHT!!! " Daniel was flabbergasted. "I thought I was doing well with 23.." he laughed softly. Jack just raised his brow. He suddenly felt under - educated.

"We bring forth greetings of our world. You and your lover are most welcomed at our table..."

Jack straightened up. Daniel blushed and turned to look at him then back at the Chief.

"Oh.. he's.. err.. he's not my .. lover.." Daniel stammered, realising they mistook the position the two men were asleep in.

Jack lifted his brow and jutted his chin. "I'm his commanding officer," he said.

The Chief looked between the men then nodded. "As you wish. Please, you - both - are welcomed at the table.." he indicated a direction with the sweep of his arm.

Daniel looked at Jack who shrugged.

"We have others. A woman and .. a friend.." Daniel informed them.

"We shall gather them," he said, then with a nod, sent off two warriors to look for them. Jack wasn't sure he liked that so he quickly radioed Sam.

"Get ready. You're about to have company..." he said.

"Huh? oh.. yeah, they're here..." Her response was cautious.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Yes, they seem to be inviting us to go with them, Sir."

"That's fine, Captain. Follow them. We'll see you in a short while," he signed off then took the boots that Daniel offered to him and began pulling them on.

They didn't have long to wait until Sam and Teal'c were brought to the stream, followed by some very agitated guards.

Sam lifted her brow as she looked at Jack.

"We fell asleep," he shrugged by way of a reason for staying out all night.

"Picturesque sleeping spot," she said dryly. Jack rolled his eyes.

Suddenly, as the Chief saw Teal'c, he fell to his knees, his hands clasped before him and he started to cry out, sounding like a plea.

Daniel tried to understand the older man's grief, while the others fell to their knees, wailing loudly too. Teal'c looked around at them all.

"Daniel?" Jack asked.

The young linguist shrugged. "I don't.." he bent and indicated to Teal'c. The Chief nodded and started wailing again.

"Teal'c this is just a guess, but have you been here before?" Sam frowned, turning on the spot to look at the wailing villagers.

"I believe I have, Samantha," Teal'c responded loudly over the cries.

"Okay, so, you must have done some nasty damage.." Jack said, his face screwing up as he yelled over the top of the ear splitting cries.

"I believe Apophis destroyed one of the villages as a show of his might when the Chief refused to share a certain piece of technology with him," Teal'c said solemnly.

The cries reached fever-pitched and Jack swung around to Daniel quickly.

"Oh, for crying out loud, Daniel do something!"

Daniel rolled his eyes then bent over to the Chief again.

"Friend... " he pointed to Teal'c. "He's our friend. He no longer serves Apophis!"

At the mention of Apophis the cries grew even louder. Suddenly there was three shot bursts of gun shots and the villagers fell silent. Daniel turned in time to see Jack replacing his gun in its holster.

"Alrighty, how about we try to discuss this .. quietly.." The Colonel whispered the last word.

Daniel turned to the Chief and smiled, trying to encourage the older man into speaking again.

"What is it you wish to know?" the man asked.

With a sharp shrug, Jack gave a forced smile as he held his hands wide and asked, "Who are you people?"

The Chief looked at his fellow villagers and frowned, "people? We are not people, we are the Humlubs."

"Humlubs? Well, nice to meet you. I'm Jack and you are...?" He held his hand out to the Chief.

"I am Chief," he said proudly.

Jack rolled his eyes and Daniel stepped forward, sensing Jack's growing impatience.

"Yes, you're the Chief, but do you have a name? Remember, my name's Daniel Jackson..." He touched his hand to his own chest lightly, then reached out and indicated to the Chief.

"I am Chief of Humlubs. I have no other title," he said.

"Chief? Okay," Daniel swivelled to look at Jack, "Chief it is then-" He gave a little shrug to Jack then stepped back as the Colonel stepped forward.

"How about this technology that Teal'c referred to.." Jack asked. The Chief shook his head.

"It is as we told the Golden One, we cannot part with it. For to part with it would be to part with our life.."

Sam and Jack exchanged quick glances.

"Why's that?" Sam asked gently.

The Chief eyed Teal'c nervously. "It is not a piece of technology, as it were, it is more a teaching..." he shot another scared glance at the large, dark man.

Jack sighed impatiently. "Teal'c do you know what this guy is on about?"

Teal'c tilted his head. "I believe he is referring to their ability to read minds..."

The other three travellers turned to look at the Chief.

"You can read minds?" Daniel frowned. The Chief looked at the young man and shook his head.

"No, I cannot. Only certain members of our tribes can. We call them the Vaticinators. They are the sacred amongst us," he explained.

Jack swivelled to look at Teal'c. "Apophis already has a mind scanning thingy.." He tossed his hand around a little, "why was he so Gung Ho about getting this piece of technology?"

Teal'c looked at his commander. "For the Ribbon Device to work, Apophis has to be infront of the victim. I believe he sought a better device. One able to be used at a greater distance. To my knowledge, he was never successful,"

"Let's hope you're right," Daniel muttered. Teal'c raised his brow as he looked at his young friend.

"So only certain members of your tribe are seers?" Sam asked. The Chief frowned.

"I am not familiar with that word..."

Sam smiled. "It means Vaticinator .. on our world.." she explained. The Chief nodded then he looked at Jack.

"If you are not in alliance with the Golden One....."

"Oh, no.. we are most definitely not in alliance with the Golden One." Jack sighed.

"Then perhaps an alliance can be struck between our worlds." The Chief smiled. Daniel raised his brow then looked at Jack, happy that this step had been reached.

Jack nodded.  "That would be good..."

"I'm afraid we do not have much in way of technology to share with you, but we do have other things that might be of interest..." the Chief smiled another toothless grin.

"Well, it's not dental hygiene, so...?" Jack frowned. The Chief held up his hand.

"Come. You must be weary from the sleep on the river bank. Come, let us provide food and clothing and shelter for you. You can stay a while?" the Chief asked. Jack looked at Sam, who shrugged.

"Sure, why not?" Jack shrugged and smiled.

"We will party in your honour tonight. Come!" he waved his hand in the air and headed off. The others fell in behind him, leaving the four travellers alone.

"Mind readers?" Sam repeated a little excitedly, her cheeks dimpled as she smiled.

"But he didn't say it was a technology, more a learnt process," Jack said, a little cautiously. Sam nodded.

"However, I'm interested to know what these other things are that they can offer us," Daniel mumbled, his blue eyes flashing at the departing group.

"Perhaps it would be best if we followed them, and allowed the events to open out for themselves," Teal'c suggested.

The three others looked at him then at the dense forest around them. Frowning, they all looked around to see which way the Chief had gone. They looked back at each other and shrugged. Suddenly, a small guard reappeared and beckoned them to follow him.

"Ahhhh," Jack pointed and stepped off after the small man quickly. The others, smiling amongst themselves, followed Jack.

Daniel caught up to the Chief and they talked on their way back to the Village. He turned at one point and looked at Jack.

"They request that we do not bathe in any of the streams, " he looked a little guilty as he exchanged quick glances with Jack, who nodded and dropped his head. Sam and Teal'c exchanged confused glances. "They drink from the streams you see," Daniel went on to explain. Jack gave a little cough then nodded.

"Okay, everyone get that? No bathing in the streams.." he said. Sam shrugged and Teal'c gave a nod.

The group walked the long way back to the village, it took a good part of the day before they reached the crude village, the natives looking like they lived in mud huts with thatched roofs.

The Village Elder explained to Daniel that another village had heard the Chaapa'ai open up and messaged to them that visitors had arrived.

"Smoke signals," Daniel answered Jack's unasked question. The Colonel nodded.

They entered the village and the curious natives surrounded them slowly, as the group formed a circle, back to back, keeping an eye out for any danger. Sam hated getting her face and hair touched by natives, it always unsettled her, but she stood still while the women of the village touched and prodded at her blonde hair and white skin. A young male villager ran his hand down Daniel's face, dislodging his glasses slightly. Daniel grappled with them and put them back where they belonged. Another villager did the same thing as he touched Daniel up. After the fifth villager had knocked the glasses askew Daniel pulled them off completely and placed them in his pocket.

Teal'c didn't like anyone touching his stomach for fear that they were going to harm the Goa'uld, but he stood straight and tall while the natives touched him all over. They were most inquisitive about this one, fearing him yet curious at the same time.

Jack cringed as the hands went through his hair, tousling it everywhere. Daniel smirked at the unkempt look.

"Daniel do you think we might progress from this ritual any time soon?" the Colonel asked, particularly dryly. Daniel indicated to the Chief and the old man clapped his hands, sending the villages scurrying away.

"Come," the Chief indicated for them to follow him. Daniel and Jack stepped off first then Sam and Teal'c stepped in line behind them.

They followed the wiry old man to the last hut. Stepping inside, they were amazed by the sudden drop in temperature, it was a lot cooler inside. Daniel gripped the front of his green shirt and fluttered it, trying to dry the perspiration over his body.

"You would like to bathe, come..." the old man indicated for them to follow him again, stepping from the hut again. A young male villager ran up to the group and the Chief nodded.

"Yes, but hurry.." he said to the young man. Suddenly, the young man was measuring all the team members, calling out some strange measurement to another who wrote it down with a twig dipped in some kind of resin.

Just as quickly as he started, he was finished and the two men ran off into a hut. Then another man headed over to them. He bowed at the Chief but said nothing to the travelers, only stepping in line silently behind them.

Daniel walked alongside of the Chief as they continued to talk.

"We call this world P3x56T4, what do you call it?" Daniel asked. Quietly the silent man stepped up to the other side of Daniel.

"We call it Godrich," he replied.

"Why's that?" Daniel asked, a little taken aback by the response, not the content, but for the fact that the man had spoken. The villager smiled.

"God had enriched this world with an incredible bounty. We never know hunger and we never know war, we do not have the troubles that your world has..." he said. Daniel nodded then frowned.

"Our world..? What do you know of our world?" Daniel asked, looking over his shoulder at Jack, who stepped up to the other side of the stranger.

"Only what I have learnt from you, Daniel..." he said calmly. Jack and Daniel exchanged quick glances.

"I didn't tell you anything..." Daniel frowned. The Chief stopped them, allowing the stranger to put his hands on Daniel's head, gripping tightly.

Daniel felt something like a hum pass through his mind, then he blinked.

"You have told me a lot.." he said.

"You read my mind?" Daniel was astounded.

"Hey!" Sam stepped forward. "That's invasion of his privacy..." she said. The Chief looked at her then his eyes narrowed. Daniel gripped Sam's shoulder and pulled her back away.

"Sam.." Jack said, noting the anger in the villager's eyes now.

"Women do not approach the village elder. Learn your place woman!" the young stranger yelled. Teal'c stepped between Sam and the seer now.

"Woman, especially this woman, are highly regarded on our world," he said. The Seer turned to Teal'c.

"You are not of their world, you cannot speak for them.." he said curtly. Teal'c bristled, growing a good inch taller.

"Hey.. hey!" Jack cut in, separating the Seer and Teal'c with his hands.

With a congenial smile as his blue eyes darted between the two men, Daniel explained, "Our world sort of adopted Teal'c, therefore he has every right to speak of our traditions."

Jack nodded and continued, "and he is right. Sam and women of our world, are not second class citizens... well, not in a lot of the places...." He shrugged. The Seer touched Daniel's head again then gave a loud huff and shrugged.

"Your world is very vast Colonel, you cannot say that with all honesty. There are many cultures on your world where women are worse than second class citizens..." he said. Jack frowned as he watched Daniel sway then he grabbed him before he fell.

"Daniel..."

"I'm.. I'm.." he stuttered.

"Right, that's it.." Sam shook her head. "Listen to me," she towered over the little man as she stood over him, "I'm a Captain in the US Air Force, I have rights as a woman and as an Officer, more rights than him," she pointed to Daniel, held up in Jack's arms. "I'm telling you this now. You will not do that to Daniel without his permission... It is not right.." she said. The young man looked over at the Chief who gave a small nod. The Seer's dark brown eyes watered then he nodded.

"As you wish, Samantha.." he said, squaring his shoulders again.

"It's Captain Carter," she stepped back away from him now.

Jack checked on Daniel who had regained his strength again.

"Come this way.." the Chief said as he led the group to a nearby spring.

*****

They reached the clearing and Sam sighed. It was picture perfect. There was lush forest and greenery all around them. There was a large hot spring with a waterfall, surrounded by boulders and shrubs.

"Wow," Daniel said, putting his glasses on again to really appreciate it. Jack spun on the spot, looking at all the large trees, acting as a canopy over the spring and small waterfall.

Teal'c sat on a large boulder on the edge of the spring, his hand felt the temperature of the water. It was pleasant.

"Okay, who goes first?" Sam asked. The four looked at each other.

Jack shrugged. "We shower on base together," he said nonchalantly, indicating to Teal' c and Daniel.

"Oh, well okay.." Daniel shrugged, not wanting to appear nervous or awkward.

"I have no objections either," Teal'c said. Sam nodded.

"Okay, I get this place to myself then," she said.

"Looks like it. You go first Captain," Jack said. Sam smiled at the emphasis on the word Captain.

The three men headed away from the spring, to allow her some privacy. They dragged the Chief and Seer with them.

"You regard your women highly..." the Chief said to which Daniel nodded.

"We do. As you say though, only in certain parts of our world. Some parts don't," he said with a sorrowful sigh. The Chief nodded.

"She is most fiery.." the Elder said, with admiration in his voice. Daniel looked at Jack and they exchanged smiles.

"She is definitely fiery.." Jack nodded. as something shining in the bushes caught his attention and he went to investigate. The Seer turned to Teal'c.

"You are most fortunate..." he said. Daniel frowned and looked at the confused Jaffa.

"I am sorry, I do not understand.." Teal'c said.

"You hold her affections," the Seer said, then realised by the looks on the men's faces that this was news to them both. "You did not know?" he frowned.

Daniel smiled and hugged his arms across his chest. "Care to share, Teal'c?"

"I have no idea, Daniel Jackson," Teal'c shook his head slowly. The Elder closed his mind.

"She is thinking of you now.." he smiled.

"You doing that mind thing on her right now?" Daniel asked, spinning to look at the seer who was standing a little behind him. The villager looked guilty.

"You must forgive. Here it not seen as transgression, it is a way of mediating harmony.." the Chief explained on his behalf. Jack returned, having found nothing out of the ordinary amongst the bushes.

"Huh?" Jack shrugged, trying to pick up the thread of the conversation again.

The small nervous man clasped his hands together as he spoke. "I am the Vaticinator because I have this gift. My son has this gift and his son... We are the oracles of the village. We are used to mediate between warring parties..."

"I thought you said there was no war here.." Jack frowned at the Chief.

"Because I do my job," the Vaticinator responded. " Is it not like this on your world? A party will say one thing but really feel another?"

He watched at both Jack and Daniel muttered and nodded their heads.

"I am used to prevent trickery and false promises. With my help, the Chiefs of each tribe are given the correct information, without lies or innuendo."

Jack shrugged. "Perhaps you should come to earth during election time.." he quipped. Daniel smirked.

"Take you two.." the seer went on, indicating to Daniel and Jack. Daniel's smile wiped off his face immediately.

"Err.. no. Let's not play that trick on... us..." Daniel stammered. Jack looked confused.

The Elder nodded. "As you wish.." he said.

Daniel pursed his lips before talking again. He was pondering the Seers words. "So you belong to this particular Village? Or are you the seer for every village?" Part of him was confused as to how such a set up would work.

The small man shook his head as the Chief laughed mockingly at Daniel's question. "What would the purpose be if he serviced all villages? He would have to have an alliance with only one village..."

Suddenly flustered, Daniel nodded enthusiastically. "I know that, but you said.."

The Seer turned to the Chief. "He understands a lot more than he appears to," he bowed his head as the Chief turned his eyes onto him, "of all, he is the wisest.."

Jack's back straightened at this comment and Daniel shot a quick look at him before looking onto the Chief. The older man nodded and closed his eyes slowly.

"I am forgiven?" he asked of Daniel.

The young anthropologist shrugged. "Sure."

"So," Jack gave a slight cough as he shot Daniel another glance then looked at the Seer, " you are specific to this tribe.."

"Tribe?"

"Oh, it's a name we give, on our earth, to people who live in the same.. err. Village.." Daniel tried to fit the best explanation to Jack's comment.

"Thank you Danny.." Jack muttered.

"You're welcome," Daniel also muttered.

"There are Vaccinators within each village. It is they who do our negotiations for us," the Chief nodded.

"So you can read the minds of others, but what if they have discovered a way of shielding their minds to you?" Teal'c asked, remembering some of Apophis' strong mind blocking techniques.

"It is impossible," the seer shrugged nonchalantly. Jack raised his brow.

"Oh? What am I thinking now?" he challenged, his eyes squinted a little.

Daniel felt nervous by the tone. "Jack," he cautioned his friend against the challenge.

The Seers eyes watered then he shook his head, "I cannot.."

Jack threw his hand up at the Seer and looked at his team member. "See!?"

Daniel nodded and shrugged at the same time. The Chief was smiling.

"It appears that your mind techniques are feeble on a strong mind," Teal'c said. The Seer rubbed his temples and shrugged.

The Chief was still smiling. "We have our ways.."

Neither seemed perplexed and that aroused Daniel's curiosity a little, but his attention was taken when the young man who had earlier measured the group arrived with an armful of clothing for the guests.

"Here, we have made you some clothes.." the Chief waved his hand over the array of tanned and dark brown leather outfits.

"Huh?" Jack frowned.

"You must wear our clothes.." he indicated to the crudely stitched together clothes.

""Oh, we're fine in what we're wearing, thanks.." Daniel muttered, tugging at his top.

"What beast is this hide from?" the Chief tugged at Daniel's pants.

"Oh, none. We.. "

"It's material. Man made.." Jack said.

"*Man* made?" the elder frowned.

"Cloth..." Daniel tugged at his own sleeve. The Chief held his hand up like it disgusted him.

"You are on our world now," the Elder demanded. "We will refrain from the mind probes, but you must respect our traditions too."

"No, it's okay We'll will stay in our uniforms, if you don't mind.." Jack said warily.

"You will not wear such outfits on our world. You will wear our clothes.. or you will go home..."

"Oh.." Daniel lifted his brow and looked at Jack. "I guess.. we could ..... change.."

Jack wondered at the futility of remaining on a world who's only technique was contained within inhabitants of the Villages. He looked at Daniel's eager blue eyes, seeing that there was something the young anthropologist wanted to still do on this world.

"Change.." Jack conceded.

Teal'c took the outfit handed to him and unfolded it.

"Oh, great!" Jack sighed as he looked at the little vest and patchwork pants.

Daniel screwed his nose up. "Brown really isn't my colour.." he sighed. Jack lifted his brow.

"Oh really? Had ya colors done, did you?" he said sarcastically as he looked over his own small outfit.

"No.." Daniel frowned at Jack's sudden rudeness towards him.

The Seer lent and whispered to Daniel. "He wants to see you in them," he said.

Daniel frowned and looked down at the small man then over at Jack who was occupied with looking over his own outfit. Daniel blinked nervously and then looked at the smiling Seer.

"What did you just say?"

"He wants to see you in them, see the leather hugging your..."

Daniel quickly cut him off. "Please, stop doing that.."

"It excites you," he whispered back.

"Please..." Daniel said slowly. "I .. only.." he nodded with his head and led the man away. Jack noticed the two walking away and frowned.

"Please," Daniel hoped he could explain. "You must have misread his mind. It's probably another technique he's using to stop you from probing him..."

The seer shook his head. "His guard is down. It has been down several times during the conversation. Mostly it is when he looks upon you..."

Daniel rolled his eyes. "We're good friends. We care..."

The Seer shrugged. "I can only give you the information. What you do with it is entirely up to you.."

Daniel stared at the little man a few moments then frowned as he gnawed nervously at his bottom lip.

"Both you and Teal'c appreciate the knowledge that I gave you..." the villager said. Daniel nodded then sighed.

"But you see, you're telling us stuff that Sam and.. Jack.. might not be ready for us to know.. yet.." Daniel explained gently. "Especially Jack.."

"Why especially Jack?"

Daniel sighed as he put his hands on his hips and looked at the sky above them. "Oh god.. Um.. he's a very private man and .. well .. I'm sure he didn't expect you to be able to tell me this..." his blue eyes clouded with confusion. "I'm not sure Jack will ever be ready to admit to this.."

The Seer tilted his head as he studied the angst ridden man before him. "You want this to be true..." he said gently. Daniel closed his eyes and the Seer nodded.

"So I see.." he said, patting Daniel's arm lightly.

"On our world, same sex relationships are not the norm..." Daniel explained quietly. The Seer looked back at Jack.

"He has had many.."

Daniel rolled his eyes. "See, I didn't need to know that.." he shook his head.

"I am sorry.." the man bowed his head. Daniel licked his lips nervously then jumped as he felt Jack pat his shoulder.

"What's up?"

"Errr.. nothing.." Daniel shot a quick look at The Seer and headed off. Jack looked at the other man, who gave a shrug.

"You make him nervous.." he said. Jack frowned and looked over at Daniel, talking with Teal'c.

"I do? Why?"

"He likes you.." the seer informed. Jack looked at Daniel again.

"Oh.." he nodded.

"Like you like him," he whispered with a smirk. Jack tilted his head and looked down at him.

"Like I like him...? How do I like him?" Jack frowned. The young villager closed his eyes then opened them again. They were watery.

"You are blocking me now."

Jack lifted a brow slightly. "Ya think? Stop reading our minds.." he whispered harshly.

"It is my job..." the Seer tried to explain.

Jack leant over and whispered, "mine's the protection of my team. I'm ordered to kill anyone who threatens their safety... that's my job," he straightened up. The Elder looked at him and nodded nervously.

"I am sorry," he bowed his head.

Jack eyed the small man a few moments, making a film of sweat appear on the brow of his companion.

"What did you tell him?" Jack finally got the courage up to ask.

"Nothing. I told him nothing," he said nervously then his voice rose in hope, "Would you like me to?"

Jack rolled his eyes and shook his head. "No!"

The Seer nodded. "As you wish.."

Sam came to the clearing wearing her new clothes. She was drying her hair on some kind of large leaf.

"Wow!" Daniel smiled at the vision of her in the patchwork clothing. She smiled at him.

"I take it, it looks okay then," she did a turn for her team mates, showing off her trim body in the tight leather. Jack grinned and nodded.

"Very fitting.. errr.. nice.." he smiled. She laughed and avoided Teal'c's stare.

"Thank you Colonel. Well, the water's gorgeous.." she thumbed back towards the spring.

"Good, well, I'm ready for a dip.." Jack said, starting to undo his top as he headed through the dense shrubs. Daniel blushed and bit his lip as Teal'c stopped and turned to him.

"Are you alright, DanielJackson?"

Daniel shot a quick look at the Seer then up at Teal'c. "I'm not too sure.." he sighed.

Teal'c was now aware that the Seer had told Daniel something he wasn't ready to hear. "I feel the same way," he mumbled, his eyes roamed over to Sam, talking with the Seer.

Daniel sighed heavily as he followed his friend's gaze. "If you can block his thoughts, I'd suggest doing so right now.." Daniel said cautiously. Teal'c nodded.

"I have been doing so ever since he told us about Samantha..." Teal'c stopped himself. Daniel looked at him. *Samantha*??

"It's hard, isn't it? Knowing what we shouldn't..." he sighed softly.

"You know... what?" Teal'c asked. Daniel licked his lips.

"He told me.. about.. Jack... liking me," Daniel screwed his eyes a little as he watched his large friend nod slightly.

"This is good news, is it not?" he said. "You were afraid that O'Neill would never be able to return your affections. It seems you have nothing to worry about now, my friend," the large Jaffa smiled happily for his friend.

"Yeah," Daniel sighed heavily, not sounding very convinced.

"You do not seem happy," Teal'c said suddenly noting the younger man's distress.

"What if it's just some stupid thing Jack's doing to block the Seer. What if I say something and he rebuts me..?"

Teal'c smiled at his nervous friend as he patted his shoulder. "I do not think O'Neill knew about the probes until it was too late. I believe the information the Seer has given you is correct.."

Daniel blinked quickly then sighed forlornly. Again Teal'c smiled at his friend.

"From our conversations in the past, why does this news not fill you with happiness?"

Daniel inhaled slowly. "He said Jack's had a lot of partners.. " the young anthropologist's eyes narrowed slightly.

Teal'c nodded and touched his friend's shoulder lightly. "You must get over this insecurity of yours, my friend.."

Daniel blinked. "I'm not sure I can.." he muttered softly.

"Come, we should bathe.." Teal'c said. Daniel looked at the trees then at Teal'c.

"What if... Jack.. sees .. "

"I will be there...." he started off into the trees.

Daniel ran to catch up to him and gripped his arm, pulling him to a stop. "I woke up on him this morning.." he whispered, "My arms were around him, my face on his chest...." he sighed shakily.

Teal'c patted his nervous friend. Daniel's blue eyes flashed as he looked up at the Jaffa. "I knew it was him because I could smell him. God, Teal'c.. I was so hard....." he blushed at the confession.

Teal'c blinked. "Do not worry Daniel. I will be with you..." he gave him a reassuring pat. Daniel bit his bottom lip and then nodded.

The Seer watched the two men finally go into the shrubs.

"You are a very lucky lady..." he smiled at Sam.

"Why?" she frowned.

"Your large man is very attractive.."

Sam shook her head. "My man..?"

"Teal'c..."

Sam's eyes widened. "Did you do that mind thing on me?" she bristled.

"No!" he held his hands up to protect himself as she roared over the top of him. The Chief stepped over but did not intervene.

The Seer went on to explain, "I did it on him, before I was asked not to.."

Sam stumbled back a little. "On him?"

The elder nodded. She caught her breath then nodded as she sunk onto the rock behind her.

"On him? He feels the same way?" she looked at the Seer who squatted next to her, smiling like a Cheshire cat, proud that his job was done again.

"See, you do not mind if it appeases you.." he said. Sam blinked.

"It's still an invasion of Teal'c's privacy," she shook her head.

"However, you are pleased to know this, no?" he said, wetting his lips a little. She swallowed.

"You have no idea how long I've kept my feelings from him.." she shook her head.

"I could, if you let me," he said. She shook her head.

"It's a saying, it's not .. I just.. forget it. What did you say to him?"

The Seer raised his hand as in an oath. "Nothing. I told him nothing..."

Sam nodded then looked at the Chief who had been standing by them the whole time.
