] Courtney Walsh's West Indies Career

Courtney Walsh's West Indies Career

Back to main page

Test Wickets

Courtney is the leading West Indies test wicket taker, and is also only the third bowler ever to get to 400 Test wickets. And as of 19th March 2001, the first ever to 500 test wickets.

Courtney's tally of test wickets at the end of his test career is 519. He is WORLD'S LEADING TEST WICKET TAKER and will probably be for some time to come- if anyone ever catches him up!

Test bowlers of the 1990's

In a list of the best bowlers in tests for the 1990's, Courtney came in third. He played 78 tests, took 304 wickets and his average was 25.97. I didn't check where he came in the batting list!

Courtney plays 100th Test

Congratulations to Courtney. In the 4th Test, WI vs England, Guyana, 27 Feb 1998 he became the first West Indian bowler to 100 test caps.

4000 Test Overs

On 4th April, in Antigua in the 4th Test vs Australia of the 1999 series, Courtney bowled his 4,000th Test over. Only Kapil Dev and Lance Gibbs have bowled more test overs that Courtney.

At the end of his test career he had bowled 5003.1 overs!

Test Ducks

Courtney's tally of test ducks is currently 42. He is now the leading accumulator of Test ducks.

Courtney became WI leading test wicket taker with his second wicket in the first innings of the first Test.

With his second wicket in the second Test, he moved up to third place in the list of all time leading test wicket takers.

In the third test at Durban, on 29th dec, Courtney sustained a hamstring injury when fielding. His agony was unbrearable to see. He had to miss the 4th test- only the second time in his career he has had to miss a Test through injury- but he recovered for the 5th and final Test.

Sadly Courtney pulled up injured again (same injury) in the final over on Saturday at Centurion, so wasn't able to bowl any more in the match.
