During my return visits in 2004, the weather was slightly more changeable, and inconsequence the beach was less crowded. But it still had a good mix of families, couples and singles.
The beach itself is gently sloping with fine sand, and backed by dunes and a heath that is also available for naturist use, as long as you stay within the infamous posts that define the naturist area.

I would call Leysdown my local beach, it still takes me almost 3 hours to get there by public Transport from London, but its quiet and generally has a relaxed feel. I have not been their in the last year or so due to the closer of the Strood Tunnel. Like Studland the Beach tend to have a good mix of couples, singles and the occasional family. I have never had any problem with the people there. It will probably be the first beach I go to when I finally pass my driving test and we have some good weather in the UK.
The beach is clean, sandy and the people there nice,. The tide goes out a long way at low tide, so if you that way inclined you can have a long walk out over the Mud. I am not sure how safe that would be.
