Gerry MoffattBass Guitar & Backing Vocals
|
![]() Gerry Moffatt was born in Harlow in Essex, an Essex Boy born and bred, although of Irish descent. Like Martin he started playing guitar at a relatively early age, in his case 11. In his mid-teens he worked for 2 years as in-house guitarist for a London based recording studio, gaining valuable experience. Following that he became a freelance session musician recording and touring with acts including Sheena Easton, Kim Wilde, Bob Geldof etc. It was during this period that he met both Ian Wherry and Matthew Letley, the band's previous drummer. Whilst working with Kim Wilde he and Matthew got the nickname The Vodka Twins - the reasons for that being left to the imagination of the reader. In 1989 Ian asked Gerry to join the David Essex band and he quickly became one of it's most popular members for his dry wit and his 'choreography' skills. David frequently refers to Gerry as the choreographer of the group and anyone who has seen him live will understand why.
