We got up in the morning, and started taking trains: Yurikamome from Odaiba to Shimbashi, a couple of subways over to Asakasa, and then the Tobu-Nikko line for the hour trip out to Nikko.
Nikko is a pretty popular town and park area not to far from Tokyo. I've been there 4 times, but I still can't tell you its historic and/or tourist significance. But it sure is pretty.
I had booked us a room at the Turtle Annex Hitori Ann (which you can now do online!). As well as being relatively cheap, it has its own sentou hot-tubs, so you can bathe co-ed, and in private.
We got there in the afternoon, and after a short lunch, walked from the Nikko station the few miles to the inn. We pretty much spent the day chilling out, and getting snacks at the local combini for in-room snacking.
We also happened to go by the post office, were we spotted a cute Hello Kitty stationary set. The workers there were happy to sell it to us for cheap, and you know we were excited! Less than $2 for a rare edition Hello Kitty as a Japanese postwoman letter set.
