How the Game is played and Won

Lacrosse is a contact sport played by 10 players: 1 goalie, 3 defensemen, 3 midfielders and 3 attackmen. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponents goal. The team with the highest number of goals wins the game.

Game skills require good control of the ball. "Perfect practice" will result in targetted throwing, catching and carrying or "cradling" the ball.

The game begins in the center of the field at the "midfield line" with a "face-off" in which the two opposing players squat with their sticks to the ground, facing one another and the ball. A referee blows the whistle and the two charge for control of the ball like two coyotes after the same rabbit!

Once in the warrior's stick, he runs like the wind or passes the ball to his teammates, in positions to score a goal. Good "cradling" skills in a regulated pocket depth will bring the ball closer to the goal. However, once in possession of the ball, the player will scout the field ("Heads up, guys!") and look for an open teammate. At the same time, he must avoid attacks by the opposing team's defensemen. Correct "poking" or "body checking" by the defensemen may loosen the ball from the player's stick or "head" and the ball will become loose and the possession will be taken over. It will then begin to travel in the opposited direction! However, good "cradling" and "body blocking" skills will keep the ball intact.

(Run like the wind, use your skills and pray your armored equipment will protect you from harm!)

The ball can be passed to the teamates who will continue to maintain possession and shorten the distance to the goal until finally, it's put into the net!

Last but not least, the ball must get past the defending "goalie" who with the assistance of his defensemen, will attempt to block the point by using his own catching skills or body armor.

The contact sport can somestimes become brutal, but with the assistance of your teammates and good passing and catching skills, the sport becomes quite an exciting and unusual game to conquer. As a spectator, it can become both unexpecting and intriguing!
