What Is A Cavy?
"Cavy" is the correct word for a Guinea Pig, although many people are unaware of this.  Just about everyone knows what a Guinea Pig is, however, if you did not have the pleasure of owning one as a child, surely you would have seen the more common varieties of cavies available for sale in the local pet shop.

The pure bred variety of cavies, which is what we are talking about here, are very different to the cross bred varieties more commonly viewed in pet shops.  Personality, appearance and even size are all very different in the pure bred varieties.

Pure bred cavies have been selectively bred for type (a certain appearance), size, and temperament.  They make ideal pets and without a doubt only the pure bred varieties make grade for exhibition stock.

Cavies are delightful little furry people and the pure bred varieties come in 48 different breeds to my knowledge.  There is something for everyone.  Although they are classified as a "rodent", there is very little rodent like about them.  They do not have an offensive odour, in fact, they are odourless.  They are not inclined to chew or burrow, and are purely herbivorous (they do not eat meat).

Cavies are the ideal pets and exhibition stock of the new millenium as the many enthusiasts would agree.  View our varieties, read all about them and you will soon realise why.
