The Great Tribulation (or the Period of Great Sorrows) will begin immediately after the completion of the temple of God. The period of the Great Tribulation is a few weeks (possibly 45 days) of dangerous trials and deadly deceptions of the Antichrists and false prophets (agents or Satan). It is a time of great martyrdom of Christians. The seriousness of this period is that never before and never after will there be another period as terrifying as this, whereby even the very elect (godly Christians) are deceived. The disastrous deception by the combined efforts of the false christs (misled and deceived church leaders), false prophets (with signs and wonders) and the Antichrist (Jesus' imitation) is unparallel in the history of Christianity.
"For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be." Matt 24:21
After the completion of the temple of God, the Antichrist will assemble the Jewish priesthood to dedicate the temple to the God of Abraham. The priests will first dedicate themselves to God and only after that will they proceed to dedicate the temple. All these religious rites with animal sacrifices will be in accordance to the instructions of God in the Pentateuch (First 5 books of the Holy Bible).
And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD. IKing 8:10-11
Just like in the days of King Solomon (1Kings 8:1-11), during the dedication service when the priests were in the temple to God, suddenly the whole temple was filled with cloud with lightning and brightness (just like the glory of God).
"Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand)," Matt 24:15
And when the cloud clears and under the scrutiny of TV cameras, the Antichrist (abomination of desolation) will be seen standing in the holy place of the temple of God. The moment the priests were able to enter the holy place again, they will immediately proclaim the Antichrist God, Emmanuel (God with man) and the Messiah. This will be the start of the Great Tribulation or deception. Many Christians will accept the Antichrist as our Lord Jesus coming for His Millennium rule.
Our Lord told the Jews to flee from Jerusalem and Judea into the wilderness otherwise they will be misled by the priesthood to accept the Antichrist as the Messiah. At least they will survive to
"then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes." Matt 24:16-18
The deception is so serious and complete that the Lord told them to flee and not to look back otherwise they may easily be deceived or killed (if they reject the Antichrist) by the deceived Jews and priesthood.
"But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!" Matt 24:19
The Lord revealed the perfect deception that those who were not able to flee will definitely be deceived or killed.
"And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath."

21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the
beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be."

22 "And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the
elect's sake those days will be shortened."
Matt 24:22
23 "Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not
believe it."
Matt 24:23
24 "For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and
wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect."
Matt 24:24
25 "See, I have told you beforehand." Matt 24:25
26 "Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or
'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it."

The devil’s ulterior motive is to deceive Christians, Jews and all creation to worship him. Since the final destination of Christian is with the Father in heaven, he tries to minimise the number by deception. It looks like he will be very successful for many will be deceived by him. Once they worship the Antichrist, they will immediately lose their salvation. Therefore, the Antichrist together with his agents (false christs and false prophets) will go forth to mislead the Christians. With the many signs and wonders, all mankind will be amazed, and many Christians and Jews will follow him to damnation.
However, true disciples (Elect of God) of our Lord Jesus Christ will be rejected by nominal, worldly, carnal and misled Christians. They will be betrayed by these fearful Christians to the authorities to be tortured and killed as radicals and apostates. During their martyrdom viewed by all mankind, the Holy Spirit will use their mouths to preach the everlasting Gospel. Thus all mankind will have the Gospel preached to them prior to Rapture. These faithful Christians (true disciples) were found worthy to be the elect of God and to be taken from this world prior to the Wrath of Satan.
The antichrist will also try to deceive the Jews to prevent them from getting saved. Immediately after the Rapture, it will be the Period of the Jews whereby the remnants (all those Jews, who have not been deceived nor worship him or Beast and his image), will accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah.
"And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days." Mark 13:20
However, he will only be around for a very short time. The Lord for the elect's sake had shorten this period of the Great Tribulation to possibly a few weeks, otherwise all will be deceived.
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. I Jn 2:18
During the end time, when many antichrists appear to mislead Christians to apostasy, then we will know that that Antichrist will be appearing soon. Only the weakest of them, i.e. the Antichrist from Iraq is mentioned in Scripture and he will become the most powerful and fearful among them all. He will conquer all the Arab nations and Jerusalem to establish his `New Babylonian Empire'. He will allow the Jews to come back to build the Temple of God. There will be peace and prosperity during his short rule. He will then sit in the Temple of God proclaiming himself the `messiah'. Many including Christians will follow him. The other 6 antichrists will be very powerful, rich and influential individuals worldwide, and when that Anti-christ appears after the Rapture, they will hand over their authorities and powers to him.
Situation of Christians in the Great Tribulation period.
"For then there will be great tribulation,
such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time;
no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would
be saved. But for the elect's sake, those days will be shortened. Matt
24:21-22
The destructive teachings of the false christs together with their miraculous signs and wonders will tempt many Christians to give up their faith in the power of the message of the Cross. Christians who endure to the end in this era are the overcomers and some of them will most likely be martyred.
