Several Shades of Beauty Welcome

If you are caught in someone else's frames
Break out!

The blues the greens the whites you see
All shades of beauty in a living tree
A tree whose home bares no arms
Against those who come to cause them harm

Sounds of mom's laughter as she watches her go
Her small fledgling falling to the ground below
Her first attempt was not a success
But don't discourage my chick come back to the nest

I will help you to fly as my mother helped me
Grab hold of the branch climb back to the tree
It's really simple just a fall here and there
With so much to gain please do not despair

To fly through the air to be truly free
Is Gods' gift to his birdies like you and me
>So watch one time as mommy shows you with pride
To flap your wings quickly and hold your head high

After many attempts the fledgling had learned
To flap very quickly looking forward to each turn
She enjoyed her fun going off while mommy napped
Not knowing her flight may not bring her back

She flew up and over trees landing only to rest
Making new friends, eating berries, she was blessed
How proud mommy will be when she awakes from her nap
To watch me land and take off with hardly a flap

Just one more time to see the new friends I've met
Oh where have they gone?  Who is that man with the net?
Let go you can't take me my mommy's at home
She's napping you see, she doesn't know I'm alone

Mommy, I cried for you, I screeched and I yelled
I bit them really hard, until finally I fell
To the ground below as I did that first day
When you taught me to fly, but I flew too far away

Mommy you were sleeping you were unable to see
How well your fledgling flew from tree to tree
So many friends I met on my journey today
But mommy they were gone when I went back to play

It's getting dark now I don't think I can get back
To see you mommy when you awake from your nap
I heard the man say he had finally found
One that was alive and was taking it to town

I'm not crying, oh no mommy, not me
>But I do miss our home at the top the tree
Thank you for teaching me how to fly as you do
Knowing one day I can fly home to you

The fledgling was taken to town that day
Shown to the people but they would not pay
You've stolen this poor creature he is still shaken
Our shame shall speak for those that's been taken

We will not purchase or have you gain
From torturing or killing those that remain
These beautiful creatures that live only in doom
With a slight chance of survival to a living room

All these creatures are endangered at best
When families are torn directly from their nest
With no regard to their suffering or pain
With the loss of toes and lives. Is this humane?

The man left in a hurry and did not find
That the small frightened fledgling was left behind
A small boy heard the sounds of a whimpering cry
Do not worry my birdie I will help you to fly

To fly home again so your mommy can see
That you are her fledgling that learned to fly free
But in your flight you found the world devious and coy
Except for the love in the heart of one little boy

The fledgling was frightened her wings tattered and torn
When she finally left the boy for her way home
His eyes filled with tears as he held her so high
Go my fledgling, go home, go, you can fly

The boy watched her flap wildly trying to look back
Wondering if she remembered the man and his sack
Her friends were gone all killed only by greed
But by the grace of God the fledgling was freed

She flew aimlessly home in hopes she would hear
A sound reminiscent to know she was near
The home she remembered nestled high in the tree
Where she first learned to flap and fly timidly free

Starting to tire from her long journey home
She landed by a nest that was not her own
Startled by a sound yet familiar to her ear
She saw her sister and brother playing without fear

She thought I must warn them of the man and his sack
How he will take them away never to come back
But just at that moment her mommy flew to the nest
chirping and preening under mommy's wing she thought best

To wait for tomorrow to tell the stories of fear
For today she's not scared her mommy is here.
But be aware to those that come in the night
Stealing babies from their home will never be right!

The blues the greens the whites you see
All shades of beauty in a living tree
A tree whose home bares no arms
Against those who come to cause them harm

This poem is a fantasy.  Only in fiction would this happen to a fledgling.  The outcome would not be a happy one.  Once taken it would never find it's family if not for fiction.

Everyday we are loosing these beautiful creatures to the hands of thieves stealing them from their home.  Stop the torturing and killing of our feathered beauties that soar the skies.  Don't purchase an imported bird.  There are many good breeders who raise babies without endangering their lives.  You will both be happy you did the proper thing.  There is nothing more precious than a hand raised baby birdie.

We've had both. Our first was a wild caught red lored amazon.  In her plight to the United States she lost a toe and heaven knows what else she went through to get to our living room.  She's been with us for 10 years (except her screeching) she's been a very good feathered friend.  She is TOTALLY bonded to my hubby.  She allows all of us to pet her, but only picking her up if she flies off her play set or perch.  As far as the screeching this is an amazon trait...so not to hold it against Charlie.

This poem is dedicated to all of Charlie's family and friends that didn't make it to a living room.

God Bless You
