Pecking Order
The final
four pictures were the first time Smoki and Charlie approached the matter
of pecking order. Pecking order in birds, in my words, is the
one that is able to bluff or literally fight for their freedom as the head
of flock order.
Actually
this isn't what Smoki had in mind. As you can see in the first picture
she was trying to make friends with a little begging for Charlie.
(She was still a baby) Charlie on the other hand felt she was approaching
for an attack.
As
Smoki approached Charlie on the cage notice Charlie putting her foot on
the perch.
Smoki
decided to get a little closer look as Charlie's body became more erect
in stature. Smoki attempted to talk with Charlie but she was not
interested.
Charlie
feeling defeated (in her mind) quietly left the cage as Smoki continued
chattering away. That was a minor challenge for a pecking order between
the two birds. It was the last time they pushed each other for a
stand on fitness, but there were plenty of smaller bouts for a place on
the play area.
Although Smoki would
never admit it she liked playing with Charlie on the play set if nothing more than
chasing her around. They didn't hurt each other and it did give them
great exercise before taking a nap.
When
birds are together care should be taken for each of their safety.
When our birdies are playing together I am always in the immediate area
for quick retrieval if needed. If birds do not get along make sure
there is a separation between them on play area.
