Summary: After Will's laptop is stolen, Detective Gavin Hatch is assigned to help find it. Little does Will know that Gavin is a closeted-cop from Jack's gay men's support group, who has a bad habit of coming up with eleborate stories in order to spend time with men he secretly likes but is too afraid to ask out. He also has major issues with food in teeth.
Gavin's habit continues with Will, as he tells Will that he believes Will's laptop was stolen by part of a gay-laptop theft ring. He recruits Will to go "undercover" with him at a gay bar. The two pose as a couple, but Will begins to feel confused by the intimate way Gavin acts with him.
When Gavin goes to get drinks, Will encounters Jack, who warns Will about Gavin. Will decides to use Gavin's food-in-teeth fear to get him to "dump" him. It works, but Will ends up confessing his plan to Gavin, and tries to get him to feel better about himself. Gavin agrees, but still refuses to be seen with Will because of his teeth.
Meanwhile, Grace's crazy neighbour Val (last seen in "Girls, Interrupted") has returned. She claims to be better, but Grace has her doubts, and they increase when Val gets an office next door to Grace's and starts designing as well. But Val's version of designing involves stealing supplies from Grace and copying her ideas.
Grace tries not to let Val get to her, but when the potential buyer tries to get the two to work together, Grace snaps. Luckily, Karen comes to the rescue, sending the buyer out to wait in the hall, then knocking Val unconcious using tai-chi.
Did You Notice...
~The song that is played at the club Gavin and Will go to, and that Jack is later singing in the elevator, is "Lovin' You", which was sung by Minnie Riperton, the late mother of Maya Rudolph. Maya and Molly Shannon (Val) co-starred on "Saturday Night Live" together.
~Submitted by Sebastian: The title of this episode, "Fegal Attraction", is taken from a movie that was a huge huge hit in 1987, "Fatal Attraction", starring Michael Douglas (Gavin in this episode) and Glenn Close (Fannie in the following episode, "Hocus Focus")
